Chapter 10 – Awakened

 

It’s been confirmed that these effects can be created. The problem is specifically with this Sleep Disturbance effect.

Come to think of it, I have heard of it. Some magic tools have special abilities――or skills.
Adventurers seem to be able to strengthen their physical abilities by equipping those magic tools and accessories.

Maybe Sleep Disturbance is the same kind of effect. There do exist cursed accessories, where if you wear them without realizing, your body will receive some unpleasant side effect.

It was said there was no way to know the effects for sure, but I seem to be able to see it.

In this case, I can understand why Phila was unable to sleep. However, if she slept in another bed, there shouldn’t be any effect.

There may be some other reason for it. Anyway, for now, I’ll just recreate this bed.

I destroyed the bed, collecting the materials. Then, I pictured it in my mind.

The S-rank bed was completed, and I put it in the same place as before.
Of course, I recreated the blanket and pillows as well, also at S-rank.

The reason she couldn’t sleep was that Sleep Disturbance effect. Now, that effect has completely disappeared from the new bed.

Since the work was over, I left the room. Phila was shaking her head in the hallway. Next to her, the butler watched anxiously.

「…You, are you finished?」

「I understand.」

Phila went back into her room. For the time being, we followed her inside. The moment she got in the bed…

And then, Phila’s eyelids slowly began to close.

「T-thank you. A Blacksmith… is really something amazing, huh?」

That’s good… now I can rest easy.

I couldn’t just stand around in there, so I left the room with the butler. Once out in the hallway, he stared at me in awe.

「I didn’t think you could fix this in the blink of an eye.」
「Umm, yeah, but… I’d like to ask you a few questions.」
「Hmm? What do you need?」
「Has Phila-san ever slept in another bed?」
「Let me see… she did try some new beds, and the beds in other rooms as well, but they were no good after a day or two. Phila-sama also got stressed out from changing her bed every day. So――」
「I see… how long has she been having trouble sleeping?」
「It’s been about a month already.」
「…Is that so? If you still have the other beds Phila-san slept on, can I take a look at them?」
「I understand, but what do you want to do?」
「Well, something. There might be more for me to help with.」

The butler cocked his head. It seems the problem isn’t limited to that bed, so I have no choice but to consider other possibilities. For example, the possibility that someone intentionally placed that curse to keep Phila awake.

To that end, I walked with the butler through the halls to each room.

As expected, all the beds that the butler showed me had Sleep Disturbance as well. However, the rank is lower.

The bed that I was looking at now had Sleep Disturbance F on it. I heard this was the bed that Phila used a week ago.

With this, several clues have come into view.

Everything she used for a short amount of time had a low rank effect. Meanwhile, everything that was close to her had a high rank one.

In other words, the cause might be with Phila herself?

「Have you noticed anything unusual about Phila-san in the past month?」

With the butler, I returned to Phila’s room.
When the butler slowly opened the door, Phila is already sleeping soundly.

「Yeah, I believe I felt a sign of evil from all the beds Phila-san ever used.」
「H-huh? N-no way… could it be, you mean they were cursed?」
「Yes, perhaps.」
「I mean, have you confirmed that for certain, Relius-sama?!」
「It’s just a feeling, but…」

I’d better not to decide it immediately. The butler looked at me with surprise.

「I see. If that’s really the case, then I can understand why she was unable to sleep.
「Yes. So if anything has changed in the past month, that may be the cause.」
「Hmm…. how about this? Let’s ask Phila-sama directly.」
「Is that how it is? I see. Shall we reconvene tomorrow?」
「Certainly. Now, Relius-sama, dinner is ready, so I’ll guide you to the dining room.
「Ah, yes.」

A noble’s meal is going to be very different from what I usually have. With my commoner’s tongue, will I even be able to eat it properly?

After dinner, I was taken to my room.

…It is a guest room, right? It’s just so much bigger than the room I usually use.

All the furniture is luxurious too. As expected from a noble. I’ll give it a once-over for now.

My ability to create is limited to the things I’ve destroyed using Creation Hammer, so, it’s best if I increase the number of things I can make.

One by one, I destroyed and rebuilt each piece of furniture. I went to sleep when I’d done that for all of them.

Someone was shaking me. I opened my eyes slowly, and there was Phila. Dressed in simple nightclothes, the lines of her body were clearly visible in the dark.

Her uneasy expression was beautiful.
…B-but why was she here?

「Again, I can’t sleep again.」

Oh. Right.
I got up, trying to ignore the shame of what I’d just been thinking about.
