Chapter 26 – Clues on how to return home

Everyone went completely exhausted as the scent of tea leaves spread through the room.

“Yaah, it’s done successfully. It’s been a long time coming here!”

”Thank you, I’ve caused the shop fairy a lot of trouble…”

The shop fairy seems to be overcome with emotion, and she sinks down to the couch and weakens up, looking happy. Even me and Lusha, who didn’t have much to do, are somewhat tired, so I can understand that feeling very well.

With this timing, when we are calming down, I guess I can ask the demon king about the magic circle.

“Tito-sama, may I ask… about the things we agreed on as a deal?”

I apologize for asking it when she’s tired, but I can’t wait to know about it, too, so I try to talk her out of it. The demon king immediately said, “Right,” and sat down again.

“What I want to know is about magic and magic circles that can move far away.”

“A magic circle? I can tell you that none of the demons are using such ancient things, you know…?”

“Aah… that’s what Cruz-san told me.”

I turn to Cruz-san, who is sitting on the sofa drinking a cup of black tea with a wry smile on his face. He probably thinks the possibility is low, too. As expected, or rather, what can I say, the demon king groaned in trouble.

“Ughhhh, the magic circle wasn’t used and… ah!”

“Tito-sama?”

The demon king looks up in a snap as if to say that she had a flash of inspiration.

“I have no knowledge of the magic circle, but I might have a clue. Please wait!”

After saying that, the demon king goes down to the underground room that is used as a warehouse. Is there some kind of magic book that could be a clue? After waiting for a while, the demon king came back with a small box.

“Here, Hiroki.”

“…What is this?”

When I opened the box, what I found inside it was a key. It’s a beautiful key with a circular handle and blue jewels. However, at first glance, it’s hard to tell where the key can be used.

“Ah, could it be that this key is related to… a magic circle?”

“That’s right. This item has been in the demon king’s safekeeping for generations. Somewhere in this world, there’s a door that can be opened with that key.

“Somewhere in this world…”

As expected, it would be hard to find that… As I set out in despair, the demon king continued to talk about how it was not completely aimless.

“It’s true that there’s a place you can go using this key… but the key you need isn’t only this one. What I do know is that the second one is on the tangerine continent. But, that’s all I know… I don’t have any other information.”

“There’s a lot of nature and dungeons on the tangerine continent. It would be difficult to find it without a clue…”

Following the demon king, Cruz-san joins the conversation and raises the hurdle, perhaps unintentionally. As for the tangerine continent itself, I’m planning to go there because of Lusha’s change of job to a hunter. But if I have to look for a second key, it’s going to be tough.

Lusha also worries next to me and gives me a list of possible destinations.

“Since Tito-sama had it, maybe the Beast King has it too…?”

“Ah, I see.”

It seems likely that the king of that continent has had it for generations. Or we might be able to ask him for some information. If there’s a problem, I wonder if we can get an audience with the beast king…

“It’s certainly one thing to ask the beast king. Hiroki is different, so I’m sure you’ll be able to meet him.”

“Am I that different?”

I’m just an evasion healer. But, well, if me being a weirdo is the reason I can meet him, I think it’s okay… No, is it really okay?

“I wish I could have connected you with him, but unfortunately, it was only yesterday that I was introduced to the public…”

Since her face as a demon king wasn’t yet facing any other countries, she told me that it was difficult to introduce me to the beast king. She said that they would be interacting with tangerine as a country… or rather a continent in the future. It seems that if we wait for that, she can introduce us, but as expected, I don’t have enough time to wait.

“It’s okay; we’ll check it out on our own. We’ll be heading to tangerine soon after this.”

“We’ll go to the dungeon, and I’m sure we’ll be able to find the second key as well.”

Lusha nodded and laughed. Let’s do our best to find it.

“I see. Then I’ll be praying from here for you to find it too.”

“That’s very helpful, thank you.”

“Yaaah, leave it to us!” said the shop fairy.

Will we encounter her again in the dungeon or in the forest? When I think about it, it’s kind of like a game; it’s kind of fun.

The demon king suddenly got up from her seat and came back with a large box that was on the shelf in her hand. She handed it to me, and I nodded and wondered what on earth it was.

“It’s a reward. It’s a very good one, and it would be useful.”

“Hiroki and Lusha have been very helpful to us. Not only in the dungeons, but also in the showdown.”

I nodded when the demon king and the shop fairy told me to take it without hesitation.

“Then I’ll take it gratefully.”

When I opened the box, a faint light flooded out of it. I was startled for a moment, but I soon realized that the cause was the ore inside. It was a rare and high rarity value magic ore that I had seen in the secret underground dungeon of the demon king’s castle. Moreover, it contains two huge chunks of it.

“Wow, it’s amazing…! Eh, can we have this? Isn’t it too much?”

Lusha held her face with her hands in excitement and muttered “amazing” over and over again.

The demon king showed us her staff and told us about the magic ore.

“This staff was made from the same magic ore when I was born. It started out as a staff that was about ten centimetres long, but it grew with me to become the one you see today.”

”Seriously…?”

I thought it was a magnificent and strong looking staff, but I didn’t think it was something that was growing with the demon king. I’m honestly happy to get the magic ore that I had given up and thought impossible to have even though I wanted it. I want to make weapons and equipment that can grow.

Ah, but then…

“This can be used as material for Lusha’s bow, too, right?”

“Yes, you’re right! I think this would make the finest bow and increase its offensive power tremendously! It’s amazing, amazing, amazing! Thank you, Tito-sama!” said Lusha happily.

I was happy and excited too, but Lusha was even more excited.

“I feel like leaving for the Tangerine continent right now!”

“You can’t do that just yet. We need to buy supplies as well.”

“I know!”

I know the feeling to be in high spirits, so it’s probably a good idea to leave in a few days. Let’s get some rest today and go buy some travel essentials tomorrow.

“Yaah, as usual, the two of you’s travel pace is very fast.”

“I enjoy travelling with Hiroki because it’s fun. I’m excited to go places with Hiroki that I can’t go alone.”

“I’m embarrassed if you say that over and over again.”

Hearing Lusha’s honest impressions make me feel somewhat red in the face. I’m delighted that she thinks that way, so I’ll work as hard as I can too. It may be nice to go to various dungeons, build weapons, and reach the end of this world where no one can reach someday.

I don’t know if that’s going to happen, but.

“I’m going to be travelling around the world for a while, so I’m sure we will meet again somewhere,” said Cruz-san.

“Cruz-san? I’ve heard you go to a lot of places from Pino… are you going to go far?”

I wondered if he was using the demon king’s castle as a base apart from his home, gathering materials around the apricot continent.

“Didn’t the magic book Hiroki gave Tito-sama have the location of the great tree written in it? I didn’t have everything figured out yet while calling myself a caretaker, so I’m on a journey to check that out.”

“Ah, now that you mention it.”

“Did you forget? That magic ore even includes gratitude for the magic book.”

Cruz-san chuckled and told me what I was concerned about.

“Don’t be fooled by some strange people.”

“That will be fine. I’d like to think that I’m good at judging people’s character.”

I think a person who doesn’t keep their distance when they ask about my job has a high probability of being a good person. Although it’s a delicate criterion, it’s probably pretty accurate.

The demon king, who was listening to the conversation, chuckled.

“Well then, I guess you’re going on a journey now. When you’re in this town again, please come to the castle, and let’s play some games.”

“Because I lost in the end, I’ll need to practice riding the Pacaloo next time to make sure I don’t lose.”

“I’m looking forward to it. Thank you, Hiroki and Lusha. I couldn’t thank you two enough.”

With tears in her eyes, the demon king reminds us to come to visit her anytime. Of course, I’m going to come to play, so Lusha and I nodded with all our might.

    1. Thanks for the chapter desu~

Man, she’s so cute. Tito, that is. Her disposition as a shut-in gamer, short stature, and kind demeanour really tickle my fancy. She’s like Chiaki from Danganronpa, and is also one of my favourite characters.

      Tito best girl.

[“Ah, could it be that this key is related to… magic circle?”]
      * magic circle —> a magic circle/ magic circles

  2. The INT must be tied to the magic power stat. There has to be a decent reason why the main character is so stupid. The moment he gets anything, he tries to shove it down the elf girl’s throat to help her damage stat go higher. But it doesn’t make any sense to do that when their current goal is to go upgrade her Job to a higher tier that has a skill that completely negates the need for a bow. “Let’s use all these ridiculously expensive and/or rare materials for a bow you’ll ideally stop using soon.”

That’s not even getting into how stupid it is for him to continue putting points into evasion now that’s it significantly higher than his heal stat. He should put more points into healing or some points into attack or magic attack so he’ll stop being so reliant on others to do damage to anything.

And the elf needs accuracy because the DPS loss of missing the majority of your hits is ridiculous. What’s the point of a 1-shot kill move if you always miss?
