Chapter 15 – Day 14 of Living in the Demonic Land
Over breakfast, I told Cher that I had decided to go home after killing as many monsters as I could. Cher nodded repeatedly and stuck out her tongue. It seemed that she was not making fun of me but expressing her gratitude.
Cultures differ from place to place.
It took Cher a long time to climb the cliff, and she was drenched in sweat.
I suggested she use wind magic to fly, but she said it was difficult to control her magic, so she couldn’t do it now.
She grabbed the vines and came up, panting. I was already at the cliff.
It was a pain, so I pulled the vines up. Cher seemed to be afraid of heights, and her face was plastered with fear.
When I tried to leave her behind, she shouted “Makyo!” and followed me. It would be a problem if she lost her strength at that level.
After that, while I let Cher deal with the big moth, I cut a suitable branch and made a wooden sword by scraping it with a knife.
I saw that Cher was paralyzed after inhaling the pollen of the big moth, so I went to help her.
Cher looked at me in protest as I easily defeated the big moth.
“So it really works as a paralyzing agent.”
I let Cher hold the wooden sword while she is still frozen after casting the spell.
Then I collect the magic stone from the dead big moth. After a while, Cher seems to have regained her ability to move, so we start moving again. Cher tugs on my sleeve, and I ask her what she wants. And she says she wants the magic stone from the big moth.
“If you want it, you have to defeat it yourself.”
I said, but she looked at me intently. She seemed to have some kind of goal in mind.
Since there was no other way, I gave her the magic stone, and she tried to attach it to the tip of the wooden sword. I carved it with a knife, and when she attached the magic stone to the tip of the wooden sword, she smiled and looked very satisfied.
It seems that she wanted to use it on a staff rather than a wooden sword. Certainly, a staff is more appropriate for a magician.
From there, Cher’s triumphant advance began.
Big moth’s magic stone has a paralyzing spell attached to it, so Cher uses her staff to cast a paralyzing spell on the monster. She then slowly attacks the paralyzed monster and uses magic to defeat it.
Even from my point of view, she didn’t struggle at all. I see; everything has its uses.
When we get home, I’ll show her the magic stone and help her make a staff with a magic stone of her choice.
I thought that, but then she ran out of magic power and collapsed.
What a troublesome person.
In the end, we couldn’t go home that day either, so we decided to camp by the river.
I made dinner, but Cher continued to sleep.
If she had been sleeping quietly, I would have been worried, but since she was snoring loudly, I wasn’t particularly worried. She must have been tired from fighting the monsters.
Since I had left Cher to deal with the monsters almost all by herself, I decided to go to the surrounding forest to hunt monsters while practicing magic.
I’ve got the hang of using magic, but it still doesn’t have any immediate effect, and to be honest, I’m not sure if I can use it in battle. It seems like I’m spending too much time on the image.
If I don’t have a clear image, my magic power will dissipate, so I think I’ll use images that are easy to imagine, such as spheres and cubes.
When I returned to the riverbank, I found Cher sleeping and being attacked by slimes, so I killed them all with my saber in an instant.
As night fell, I could hear the screams of the imps.
Under the stars, the sound of Cher’s breathing echoed through the demonic land.
