Chapter 21 – Day 20 of Living in the Demonic Land

Today, Cher and I worked together to pack the goods we were taking to the military training facility. We eat breakfast quickly and then go to get butterbur leaves to wrap the aged meat and ham.

The butterbur leaves in this demonic land are very large, so they’re perfect for wrapping. We pick the yellow leaves that have begun to wilt. The young green leaves are too tough to use for wrapping.

The meat is wrapped in the leaves, tied tightly with vines, and then packed into the backpack.

Cher also carries the meat that doesn’t fit into the backpack on her shoiko. We made it in a hurry, too. [T/n: Wooden rack with shoulder straps for carrying loads on the back.]

Cher wanted to work, too.

If we both carry it, we can double the amount we can trade, so I’m grateful. Cher looks nervous, half excited, and half scared.

She also packed her shoiko with things that could be used as materials for weapons, such as the teeth and claws of monsters. She tied her staff together and strapped them to the back of her shoiko.

“Is everything ready…?”

After checking the fields, I thought about what I needed while taking a bath. I also thought about alternatives since I knew I wouldn’t be able to get a spellbook for space-time magic immediately.

I’d like to trade for thread, sewing tools, shipbuilding tools, etc.

Also, a metal sword. This is to make a prototype myself since P.J.’s magic tools are too powerful. I should probably get some armor as well.

“Oh, that reminds me, I also need some women’s clothes.”

It’s a pity that Cher only has one set of clothes. They don’t smell yet, but she’s starting to worry about it. In demonic land, it’s normal to go into swamps and get dirty with monster blood, so she’ll probably want at least one change of clothes.

I thought as I put my mouth to the surface of the water and blew bubbles, and my hands got wet.

When I got out of the tub and started to dry off, Cher looked at me from behind a tree.

“What’s up?”

I asked her, and she ran off toward the house.

Later, when I complained to her, “Don’t spy on me!” She said, “I thought you were dead, so I came to check on you.” I must have been in the bath for a long time.

By the way, the monster freshwater crab I caught in the bath is very delicious when boiled, so I’ll have it for today’s snack. Forest Rat also ate it, crunching on the shell.

In the afternoon, I practiced my magic. I learned from Cher how to release magic power into my own body and checked where things were, the position of internal organs, and how muscles were attached. In my previous life, I knew about things like human body models, but the human body is a cleverly designed thing.

Could this possibly be used to cure incurable diseases?

Did that gentle-looking priest from the church in town do that kind of thing? But there were many people who died without being saved. Maybe they decided whether to save someone’s life or not based on the amount of money they gave as an offering? I had a somewhat frightening thought.

There are probably many diseases that can’t be cured and diseases with unknown causes. There might even be infectious diseases.

If I don’t think like that, I can’t help but imagine what might be behind that gentle-looking priest’s face…

“Well, it’s not my problem anymore.”

I cut the back of my hand a little and tried to heal it with the healing magic. It works really well. It’s not difficult once I’ve learned it since it only enhances my natural healing power.

By the way, it seems that everything that has life can be healed.

I tried it on a tree growing in the forest and some wood for a ship that was lying around, and I was able to heal the tree in the forest but not the wood. Of course.

So, if I can work on the power of different things and phenomena, I might be able to do all sorts of things.

I was gloating to myself when Cher threw a stone at me.

I caught it with a snap.

I signal Cher to throw it again.

When Cher swings, I touch the ground and interfere with the rising power with magic. I wanted to make a wall, but the whole ground rose up.

A small hill was created at my feet. At the bottom, Cher is stunned.

“Oh no, I messed up.”

I scratched my head and climbed down, and Cher tugged on my sleeve and said, “Teach me.”

I went to the swamp and tried to use magic to interfere with the power of the waves and create a current. I ended up creating a fountain that shot up vertically.

“If I can do that, I can catch as many fish as I want!”

Wait a minute; if I can increase the growth power of plants, then vegetables will grow instantly!

With that in mind, I ran to the field to try it, but it didn’t seem to work very well.

They grew for a moment and then withered away.

“I knew it was impossible.”

I said to Cher, who had followed me, but she shook her head and said,

“Impossible, impossible.”

But when there was a breeze, I could use that power, and I could make a fire burn more.

And when I used it on the running forest rat, it flew away and crashed into the wall.

I’ve been focusing on surrounding myself with magic power, but maybe I should also think about using magic power to increase my own strength. Magic isn’t omnipotent, but depending on how I use it, it could be used against the more powerful monsters of the demonic land. I was grinning to myself again when I was hit by a high-speed stone ball.

“You got me!”

As I threw the stone back, Cher had created an invisible magic barrier in front of her.

“How did you do that? Is it some kind of wind magic?”

“Tsk, tsk, tsk.”

Cher gestured that she wasn’t going to tell me. I was still inferior to Cher when it came to magic.

“All right, in exchange for the rent, you have to help me practice magic!”

I was so excited to learn simple magic tricks that I had neglected until now.

I practiced with Cher until the sun went down.
