Chapter 22 – Day 21 of Living in the Demonic Land

The next day, before the sun came up, Cher was baking flatbread.

She baked not only for breakfast but also for lunch and dinner. Cher’s eyes were serious as she baked the bread. She had thought about getting food in the forest, but it would be better if she had a packed lunch.

I will give the Forest Rat family more food, go to the fields and cut the weeds, and use magic to create a water stream and bring water to the edge of the fields. This makes watering easier.

The amount of vegetables has decreased, but the remaining ones are growing well.

After breakfast, we set off with our packs on our backs.

The plan was to enter the forest by noon today and secure a campsite. I would scout out the training area and decide which area Cher could go into.

We walked, careful not to fall into any pitfalls, and after about an hour, we reached the stream at the entrance.

It would have been faster if we had been running.

“I had no idea that the river at the entrance was so close.”

There is a difference in the experience of advancing through an unknown demonic land and advancing through a known beast path.

We crossed the river as we defeated the Slimes and left the demonic land.

“Whew~!”

This is the first time that Cher has left the demonic land. If we hurry too much, we’ll soon reach the training facility, so I’ll teach Cher about the characteristics of the monsters we encountered on the way.

There was a cave in the valley.

“Shall we use it as a landmark?”

“Yes.”

When we looked inside, it looked like a goblin settlement, so we decided to make it our camp. Cher volunteered to kill the goblins.

It was nothing special; she just waited at the entrance and shot fire magic at them. Most of the goblins were burned to a crisp. I think the proof of the goblins’ subjugation was their ears, but since I probably won’t have a chance to go to the Adventurer’s Guild again, I just collected the magic stones.

After making sure that the surviving goblins had fled, we cleaned up the goblin corpses, the monster bones, and other food scraps.

As you’d expect from a place where monsters live, it was a good place to hide.

The trees near the entrance were thick, so even if we lit a fire, it wouldn’t be visible from the outside.

It had been less than two hours since we’d left the house.

“Maybe it was a little too soon.”

I dug a hole, hid our belongings, and set a series of booby traps around the cave. The work was second nature to me.

As I finished setting the traps, I heard a sound like metal scraping against metal.

I listened closely and, pushing aside the bushes and trees, I saw a group of adventurers approaching the demonic land.

What could they be doing in my demonic land? If they enter the demonic land without a reason, it’s trespassing.

There were eight people in the party.

Their professions were varied, including mages, priests, swordsmen, and martial artists.

The party was a mixed group of men and women, and the swordsman in the flashy armor seemed to be the leader, trying to lead the other members.

“What should we do?” Cher asks with her eyes.

We decide to follow the group for a while and see what happens.

However, they move slowly, so it’s hard to keep up with them without getting too close.

It also takes them a long time to defeat the forest monsters, even though they’re working together.

By noon, the adventurers had finally reached the stream at the edge of the Demon Land and were fighting the Slime. It seemed that the slimes were just playing around, and most of them didn’t seem to be interested in the adventurers.

At that time, Cher and I were also watching the adventurers from a distance, leaning on a rock and resting our chins on our hands.

“Fuaaahh.”

Cher seems to be tired of the adventurers attacking the Slime in the same way over and over again. For some reason, they use the strongest magic as a decoy and then attack with swords that can’t penetrate the Slimes.

“Are they stupid?”

“They must be.”

Sometimes, Cher speaks harsh truths.

I thought it wasn’t enough to have a large number of people.

After crossing the stream and entering the demonic land, half of them had exhausted their magic power, and the other half were at the limit of their physical strength.

“Alright, as the owner of the demonic land, let’s say a few words.”

I kicked away the Slimes in the stream and approached them.

“Excuse me! What are you doing?”

The leader, a swordsman, looked over and rolled his eyes in surprise.

“What are we doing, you ask? We’re a party of adventurers called the White Lightning. We’ve come here in search of powerful monsters. Now that we’re here, you’re safe!”

With that, the swordsman showed his metal adventurer card. He seemed to be saying that they were high-ranking adventurers.

“It doesn’t matter, but this is private property, so please don’t come in without permission.”

“Huh?”

“Like I said, this is my land, so I can’t let you come in and die. I don’t want to have to deal with a skeleton swordsman or the living dead, so can you please leave?”

“What are you talking about? We’re part of the strongest party in town!”

“But you’re about to die. If you’re struggling against the Slimes, you shouldn’t go any further.”

Just then, the Imp let out a scream.

“Gyeoeee!”

The adventurers cowered in fear. If they had known what it was, they wouldn’t have been so afraid.

Perhaps it was a good thing that the Kodomo Dragon came out of the demonic land with the wild bear in its mouth. The adventurers, looking as if they didn’t care what happened, ran back the way they came, fleeing from the stream they had crossed.

All that was left was the priestess, who had run out of magic and collapsed.

Is it okay for the strongest party in the city to abandon their companions? For now, I defeated the Kodomo Dragon and collected its flesh and magic stone. After thinking about what to do with the priestess, I decided to leave her near the training facility.

One of the soldiers will find her and take care of her.

I give a signal to Cher, and we meet. I carry the priestess on my shoulders and run to the training facility. She’s surprisingly plump.

“She’s been eating well.”

I left her in a field near the training facility… or rather, I laid her down. Someone will probably come to check on her sooner or later.

Cher waited in the forest, making sure no one saw her.

We went back to the cave and had lunch. As usual, I never forget to take a nap after eating. Since this isn’t the demonic land, there’s no chance of waking up and finding the ground gone.

When I woke up, I was surrounded by bees the size of large dogs. They were the bee monsters, Vespa Hornet. Cher used magic to burn them as soon as she woke up, and the battle was over before it even started.

The magic stones continued to pile up.

It is much weaker than the monsters of the demonic land. In the evening, the goblin that had been driven out of its lair returned with a higher-level goblin, but it was easily defeated by my sword.

Both the goblin and the Vespa Hornnet were inedible, so Cher was upset. She said it was all for nothing.

When the sun went down, we went to sleep.

I found a comfortable relay point.
