Chapter 81 – Day 26 of Exploration

When I woke up in the morning, I was lying on a soft bed. I don’t think I’ve ever slept on a bed like this, even when I was in the capital. It’s been a long time since I slept in a bed like this.

Besides, I can smell the scent of flowers all over my body. Last night, I borrowed some soap from the inn and washed myself. All the sand from the desert and the dirt from the demonic land were washed away. There was even a thin pajama in the room, and I felt like I was not myself.

“It’s like I’ve become a nobleman.”

“You are a nobleman.”

Chel smiled next to my ear. She was wearing the same pajamas as me, and even her hair smelled of flowers.

“You’re right, I am a margrave. By the way, why are you here, Chel?”

“I was just looking for the softest bed and ended up here.”

Chel’s eyelashes shine in the morning sun. Even though I can see her feminine breasts, waist, and buttocks, I don’t feel any desire at all. I guess it’s because I’m used to seeing her in her normal clothes.

“Speaking of which, where’s Lipa?”

I stood up and looked around the room, and Lipa was sleeping under a chair in the corner. Maybe he feels more at home in a small space.

“Let’s wash our faces and get going. There’s so much we want to know.”

We washed our faces at the well and looked up at the sky. It seemed that no one had started work yet, so there were no delivery men flying through the air. Before returning to the demonic land, I wanted to get a broom or a carpet.

The inn’s dining room was already open, and I chatted with the cook while he packed three vegetable and ham sandwiches for me. It cost five copper coins. The room rate was three silver coins per person. Even in Cliff Garuda, this is a price that could be considered high-class. Even in Estinia, high-class inns are like that.

Yesterday, I found out that I could sell the magic stone at the Adventurer’s Guild for more than I thought. I haven’t sold the crocodile skin or the honey yet, so I want to go to the trade goods shop.

“Lipa, what are you going to do? Will you come with us?”

I asked Lipa as I returned to my room and got ready to leave. Chel was still half asleep when she got dressed and said, “I want to marry the inn already.”

“Yes! I’d like to come with you if possible…”

“That’s fine. But please keep it a secret that we’re from the demonic land.”

“Yes. I think it would cause a big commotion.”

I gave Lipa, who had messy hair, a cloth and told him to wash his face.

Even though it was early in the morning, there was a jam of carriages in front of the inn. I thought it might be a morning market, but it seems to be normal.

“It’s like this before the airship leaves.”

The innkeeper pointed to the airship parked outside and told us that the airship comes to this town three times a day—morning, noon, and evening—and then goes on to the capital city to the east via a larger city to the west.

It’s a huge airship, but it can only carry so much. If you’re not in a hurry, a horse-drawn carriage is cheaper. Of course, there are monsters in the sky, so you will need an escort.

“Let’s go to the Adventurers’ Guild and check the list of requests.”

We returned to the Adventurers’ Guild we visited yesterday and checked the bulletin board where the request list was posted.

Many requests related to distribution were made, such as ‘escort for a carriage,’ ‘support for nobles on an airship,’ and ‘repair workers for carriage roads.’ Some of them were for goods deliveries.

“Could it be that some of the delivery people riding flying broomsticks are adventurers?”

“Yes, that’s right.”

The Adventurers’ Guild employee who posted the request replied.

“Um… is it easy to buy flying brooms or carpets?”

“The prices vary, but you can buy them at the tool shop over there.”

When I looked, brooms were normally sold at the tool shop.

“Wait a minute. If that’s the case, I think they should be more common… weren’t they used in demon country?”

When I asked Chel, she shook her head and said, “No, no.”

“Ah, it might be difficult for other races. It’s a magical tool that the birdmen, who can read the wind, can use well.”

It seems that brooms and carpets can just float, but you have to be able to read the wind to move through the air.

“Why don’t you just interfere with the flow of the wind?”

“Huh?”

The employee seemed to have suddenly lost the ability to hear.

“Only Makyo can do that. But it seems like you could move around if you could use wind magic.”

I decided to buy a broom to try it out. A broom cost one silver coin. I was surprised that it wasn’t very expensive. Even a novice adventurer could afford it if he made a few requests.

We went outside the city and tried to practice in the open rocky area. When I tried to put magic power into the broom, it flew into the air as if the air had burst. I managed to land it in a spectacular way, but it seems that controlling the magic power is quite difficult.

“Why don’t you try it, Chel? If you use too much magic power, you’ll end up like me.”

“I know that.”

Chel checked the magic circle on the broom and slowly put magic power into it, and it floated into the air.

“Hehehe!”

She looked at me triumphantly, but the next moment, she lost her balance and did a somersault, crashing to the ground.

“That’s what happens when you get carried away. Want to try it, Lipa?”

“Is it okay? This is my first time!”

Apparently, Lipa had never ridden a flying broom before, either.

“Wow!”

He floated in the air, surprisingly well-balanced.

“Can you move?”

“I can’t read the wind!”

There was nothing to do, so Chel used her wind magic to push the broom a little higher into the sky. Lipa flew high into the air, but when he couldn’t get back down, he cried out, “Please help me!”

“This was a little too hard for me.”

“But if you practice, Lipa, you’ll be able to ride it, right? I’ll teach you wind magic.”

“Yes! Thank you!”

I decided to give Lipa the flying broom. He seemed happy, even though he had more things to carry.

“Look! It’s a goblin!”

A goblin jumped out from behind a rock. Looking around, I saw a group of them approaching us. It seems that we attracted their attention while we were practicing with the flying broom. They were wielding sticks and broken swords, but Lipa was the only one who was afraid.

“Lipa, should you try to defeat it?”

“Impossible! No way!”

While Lipa refused, Chel killed it with magic.

“Don’t worry. I left the magic stone behind. Looks like we’ll be staying in a nice inn today.”

Chel took the magic stone from the goblin’s corpse and put it in a leather bag. It seems that Chel is also curious about the value of the magic stones in Cliff Garuda.

As I helped her collect the magic stones, I suddenly remembered the demonic land.

“There aren’t any goblins in the demonic land, are there?”

“Huh? Didn’t we defeat them before?”

Chel looked at the sky and tried to remember.

“Wasn’t that forest outside the demonic land? Goblins seem to be everywhere, but I didn’t see any in the demonic land. There were monkey-like monsters, though…”

“You notice strange things. But when you put it like that, you’re right.”

“Maybe it’s because they’re monsters that use tools, or maybe there’s some other reason. Maybe that’s why they couldn’t survive in the demonic land.”

As we continued working, Chel patted Lipa on the shoulder and said, “Don’t worry about him; he’s just a weirdo.”

“Is Makyo-san a weirdo?”

Being asked so directly, I felt a little embarrassed.

“No, I didn’t get a good education, so I don’t notice things that other people notice, and I only notice things that don’t need to be noticed. For example, you see, there are a lot of holes in this rocky area, right? And there are traces of stone pavement where there seems to be a path. Don’t you think that this could be the remains of a magic stone mine or an iron mine?”

“I hadn’t thought of that, but you might be right!”

“That doesn’t mean that the information can be used for anything in particular; I was just expressing what I noticed.”

“It’s rather annoying. The fact that you can’t make fun of it is what’s annoying. I often talk to Hel. Hel is an elf who lives in the demonic land.”

When Chel spoke, Lipa said something like, “This is amazing!” This guy might really be suitable for the demonic land.
If you think too much, you’ll get stressed out, and if you don’t think too much, you’ll die. In the demonic land, you also have to be casual.

After collecting the magic stone, we returned to the city and exchanged it for money at the Adventurer’s Guild. It seems that there was a request to defeat goblins, and we got 20 silver coins.

We tried to catch a ride on a flying ship, but it had already left for the morning. So, we decided to take a leisurely ride on a shared carriage to the eastern city of Cliff Garuda.

On the way, we passed through several towns. There were two other adventurers in the carriage with us, and the back of the carriage was piled high with barrels of alcohol, sacks of vegetables, and other goods.

From time to time, we would stop at a town square, and the adventurers would deliver the goods on their flying broomsticks. When they returned, we would head back to the capital. It seems that the customers order their goods the week before. It’s easy because you don’t have to go to the market, you just wait at home for delivery.

“What a great system!”

I’d like to introduce it in the demonic land, but there are no delivery people to begin with, and there are only caves for houses, so it’s not necessary. I wish there were more people and houses.

As the sun was about to set, we arrived at Valkirya, the royal capital of the Cliff Garuda. The royal capital, illuminated by the magic stone lanterns, had countless towers and was five times larger than the cities we had seen so far. Even at night, the gates never closed, and there was a lot of traffic with carriages coming and going.

The flying delivery men were making deliveries to the homes and shops on the upper floors of the towers. It was as bright as day, so there didn’t seem to be any danger.

It’s definitely bigger than the capital of the Kingdom of Estinia. The three of us walked through the gate with our mouths agape, completely overwhelmed.
