Chapter 1 – Inquiry

The return trip from Baron Moye’s territory to Southern Ship Town was uneventful.

There was a time when Wataru was almost persuaded by a girl in a tavern in the inn city to go with her, and there was a time when Aire almost got into trouble for vandalizing a small gambling den because a gambling match was being held there, but these are not important things, so there is no need to go into detail.

It was late at night when they returned.

After Wataru crossed over to another world at the beginning of July and met the two girls, various things have happened, and now it’s August.

Wataru’s first impression of his home after a long time was that it was comfortable.

Everything was familiar and relaxing, and the household appliances were convenient, so there was nothing to complain about.

Thinking of the trip as a vacation rather than a business trip refreshed him, but that was probably just because he had a home to return to.

He turned on the air conditioner and drank iced coffee in the cool room.

So Wataru and the others finished their meal and went straight to bed, but the next day, after eating, Wataru started his computer and let out a stunned scream.

“What is this…?”

“Is something wrong? This is… a machine called a computer, right?”

“While we were on a business trip to Baron Moye, I had the potion orders emailed to me, but the number of them…”

“Was it small?”

“There are a lot of them. There are ten of them.”

“That’s great! You should be happier.”

“Mariel, you forgot. We only have fifteen of these potions that cure chronic symptoms on hand right now. If we get more orders, we’ll be overwhelmed.”

“Ah…”

Since many people use potions to cure acute symptoms, the demand for chronic treatment potions is not that high.

Besides, it seems that old wounds that have been there for a long time require not only a pharmacist’s power but also a magician’s power, and it takes a lot of time and effort to make them.

The reason he went to so many pharmacies in Baron Moye’s territory was to increase his stock by even one bottle, but he couldn’t buy that many because it would cause problems for the locals if he bought them all up.

He couldn’t just put other people at a disadvantage for his own profit.

“So many people are troubled by this, huh?”

“Yes, I guess that’s a serious problem as well. They pay five gold coins for something they don’t even know if it works.”

“That’s a lot of money… I almost forget when I’m with you, Master.”

“No, it’s a lot of money for me too.”

What’s surprising is the extent of Ryota Endo’s connections.

Or maybe it’s the passion of professional players for their condition.

Five million yen is not a small amount of money if it can cure them.

In just two weeks, ten players who could think like that came forward.

The scope of this project is sure to expand in the future.

Even though I am not a big baseball fan, I recognized the names of three of the players.

One of them is a legendary player who could be selected for the All-Star team or inducted into the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame.

“What are you going to do? Who are you going to turn down?”

“In the end, I’ll accept them all. But we’re going to have to give up the idea of waiting in line. The question is whether to use the first-come, first-served system or to swap the order based on influence.”

Wataru rejected Mariel’s suggestion.

In the emails, everyone wrote polite sentences saying they wanted to meet as soon as possible.

It’s early August now, and professional baseball players are approaching the middle and end of the season after interleague play.

Some players are probably on the brink of not being able to renew their contracts for next season, so whether they will be able to continue playing next year or will be released may depend on a single potion and the player’s future life.

If possible, he would like all players to use it now.

However, there is a problem.

Wataru does not know the information of all the players who sent him an e-mail.

He could look up their records by their names.

If he looked in a book like the ‘Player Directory,’ which comes out every year, he might be able to learn about their likes and hobbies and even their estimated annual salary.

He might even be able to find out about past injuries.

But he certainly wouldn’t be able to find out the personal details he really wants to know.

What symptoms do they have, and for how long?

Is there any hope for a cure?

The more public it becomes, the more it distances them from their activities, so the players themselves probably don’t want to talk about it too much.

The only people who would know about such things would be close family members, good teammates, and therapists who are bound by confidentiality.

Also, not all of the players are available to meet right away.

They are traveling to different stadiums around the country.

It is also necessary to coordinate with the other party’s schedule.

“With the information we have now, it is impossible to make a proper decision.”

“I see. So we have to gather some information?”

“Yes. First, I’ll ask everyone about their plans, and then I’ll ask a player I knew before. Since he’s the one who introduced me, I’m sure I’ll get the most reliable information.”

“That’s for sure. Also, it’s important to go to the Pharmacy Guild as soon as possible and ask them to make the potion regularly.”

“Yes. I’ll do that soon. I’m sorry to bother you even though we just got back.”

“No, it’s a pleasure to be of service.”

“I’m glad you feel that way.”

“Hey, hey, Master.”

Mariel and Aire are truly wonderful women who can be trusted.

He felt a wave of gratitude and a warm feeling.

While Wataru had a serious conversation with Mariel, Aire often just sat quietly and watched.

Even now, Aire was listening intently without saying anything, but suddenly, she raised her voice to get his attention.

Looking at her face, it seemed as if she was expecting something.

“What is it, Aire?”

“Do I have to stay home again? We’ve got the transformation necklace, so I want to go out and explore too!”

“Oh, I guess so. There’s not much chance of a problem, so it’s okay. If you promise not to make a fuss, I’ll take you with me.”

“Yay! I’m so excited to see this city, Mariel!”

“Fufufu, I know. Let’s have our master show us around.”

“Hey, hey, we’re going on business. We’ll play when we’re done.”

“Yeesss!”

Seeing the two of them laughing happily, Wataru felt happier as well.

He also wanted them to get to know how people live in Japan and have fun.

After the important work is done, it will be no problem to go out.

It would also motivate them to work harder.

Seeing Mariel’s genuine happiness, Wataru smiled.

    1. But a Japanese man with two girls who don’t look like Asian girls. That smells of trouble. Maybe some scouts will want to hire them as models? For example. And they’ll start poking around where they shouldn’t.
