Chapter 116 – Day 8 of the Strategy Life

I woke Chel up early in the morning, and we went to the mountains in the north.

Rubbing my sleepy eyes, I looked up and saw a black death condor flying gracefully through the white cloudy sky.

“Are we going to climb that mountain?”

“No, maybe we can catch it without climbing.”

The Death Condor didn’t even look at us but looked at the ground in the distance. It seemed to be targeting a weak monster in the night. There was a faint smell of blood mixed with the smell of sand.

Just as I thought that, the death condor swooped down and attacked a brown unicorn rabbit. The unicorn rabbit also noticed it and ran into its burrow in desperation. When it suddenly stopped and turned its horn toward the death condor that was about to attack, the unicorn rabbit also fought back against the death condor when it was cornered. It seemed as if it was concentrating its magic power on its legs, and I could see a red glow shining through the brown fur.

Bang!

The unicorn rabbit kicked up a cloud of dust as it hit the ground.

The Death Condor diving down thought it couldn’t avoid the Unicorn Rabbit’s horn, but the next moment, the Unicorn Rabbit stopped moving in midair.

The death condor effortlessly pinned the unicorn rabbit to the ground and began to peck at it.

“Did you see that?”

I asked Chel, who was watching it with me.

“I did. If the death condor used instant death magic in the air, then yes.”

“So instant death magic is a magic that stops time? Even the unicorn rabbit’s momentum died.”

“Oh, that’s right. So the Death Condor didn’t use instant death magic, but time magic to stop time?”

“That’s probably it. For now, let’s catch it while it’s unprepared.”

We quickly approached the Death Condor, tied its wings, and placed a burlap sack over its head.

It was probably breakfast time, and several Death Condors were taking off from their nests on the mountainside. When they spotted a big dead monster, they all swooped down and started pecking at it.

“So, should we catch them all?”

“Yes, I think so. In the demonic land, it’s your own fault if you’re not careful.”

We prepared some leather straps, and Chel and I started running towards the pack of death condors.

Of course, there were also death condors that noticed us and immediately cast a time spell, but as long as the target was changed, there was no problem.

Chel created an alter with ice magic and changed the target.

I read the flow of the magic and trapped it in a magic cube, then threw it on the ground. When the magic ran out, the effect of the magic would also disappear.

All that remained was to quickly bind their wings and blindfold them.

Eight Death Condors lay on the ground.

“Let’s get Jennifer and the others to help us.”

“Yeah, no, Makyo…”

“Hmm? What’s wrong?”

I was about to take the two back to get help, but I was stopped.

“Did you just capture the magic?”

“No, I didn’t capture it; I just trapped it in a magic cube.”

“Can you do that?”

“Can’t you?”

When I said that, she gave me a really hard look.

Chel held the two Death Condors in both hands and ran to the bottom of the well. I followed her. It seems I’ve done something wrong again.

I didn’t say anything particularly bad. If that’s the case, it must be the magic cube. I also have a necklace that prevents magic, so I thought it would be best to use a technique that doesn’t use magic as much as possible.

When I got back to the base, Chel pointed at me and told Hel about it.

“Jennifer, Lipa, there are still a few left. Can you take them with you?”

I called to the two who were awake.

“Yes!”

“Understood. Is that okay?”

Jennifer looked at Chel and Hel, who was smiling and asked.

“I don’t see what’s wrong with it. Anyway, the fact that Hel is smiling means it’s not a big problem. Let’s go.”

I led them to the remaining Death Condor and started training before breakfast.

I untied the leather strap and removed the blindfold, then released the Death Condor. It took a while for it to flap its wings, but it didn’t seem to be injured and took off.

After confirming that the Death Condor had fled into the sky, I asked Jennifer to create a wall of slime. Like yesterday, I used the elasticity of the slime wall to jump into the sky.

The inner clothes I was wearing stuck to my skin, and my mouth dried up all at once. Once I reached the top, all that remained was to fall. The death condor I was aiming for was flying north.

Gathering wind magic in my fist, I unleashed a blast in the opposite direction of the death condor’s progress.

Boff!

A gust of wind blew from the tip of my fist, and my body was in a straight line with the Death Condor as it flew toward me. I tried to twist my body to avoid it just before we collided, but my elbow hit it.

The Death Condor fell headfirst to the ground. I was unable to stop my momentum either and ended up landing quite far from the base.

“You can’t kill it!”

I came back, and Jennifer told me. She was plucking the feathers from the already dead Death Condor.

“Are you going to break the giant magical beast’s leg, Makyo-san?”

Even Lipa said this to me.

“I know, but it’s hard to move in the air.”

When I looked up at the sky, the Death Condor was flying as if it were gliding.

It would be nice if I could make something like a kite and glide around, but there’s a storm around the giant magical beast.

“It would be nice if I could run in the air, too.

“That doesn’t sound like a joke, so it’s not funny. In Makyo’s case.”

Hel came over and told us that breakfast was ready. It seems that Death Condor meat is for lunch.

A fire was lit near the well, and skewers of meat were lined up around it. The well-browned wyvern thigh meat. A soup of wild herbs and mushrooms was also served, along with round bread.

Chel, who had baked the bread, was as unhappy as ever.

“What’s the fight about?”

Sylvia, who had stayed up all night sewing, asked.

“I don’t know. She’s mad because we caught the Death Condor together.”

“Of course I’m angry!”

“Makyo, there is no historical record of anyone ever capturing magic, neither in the Elf Kingdom nor in the Demon Kingdom.”

Apparently, Chel is unhappy that I captured the magic.

“But you can defend yourself against magic, right? There are defensive spells. If you use defensive magic in six directions – up, down, left, right, front, and back – it’s only natural that you’d be able to trap it. It’s not a big deal, so no one has written it down in the history books. I’m sure.”

Chel threw the skewer she had just eaten at me. I quickly caught it and threw it into the fire.

“Don’t you think it’s stupid that I studied magic and still can’t do anything?”

“Besides, it takes a lot of training to be able to use multiple spells at the same time. Can’t you understand how Chel feels?”

“I don’t know. Just because you had a hard time doesn’t mean you should force others to have a hard time, too.”

“Well, you’re right, but…”

“I haven’t had an easy time either. I can’t think of a way to move through the air.”

“I see, so everyone has their own difficulties.”

Lipa nodded.

“No, that’s not it. The hardships of a child in the slums who can’t even eat bread are different from the hardships of a noble who can’t drink expensive wine. Makyo has it easy.”

“Really? I wanted to have the talent to study at school, too.”

“Even though you have so much talent? That really pissed me off.”

This time, Sylvia stared at me.

“I guess it’s important whether or not the people around you can judge the value of that person. Besides, without that demonic land, you wouldn’t have been able to understand the value of Makyo, right?”

“Exactly! I think that knowing where you are and who you’re with is more important than having physical strength. No matter how strong you are, if you can’t survive in the demonic land, you can’t do anything.”

“I think Makyo-san has a completely different set of values than the rest of us.”

Everyone had just finished breakfast.

The hostility was directed at me.

“If that’s the case, why don’t you all come down to my level?”

I tried to shake things up a bit.

Immediately, a spear of fire flew toward my heart, and an arrow with poison on the tip flew toward my temple.

I twisted my body to avoid the fire spear, grabbed the poisoned arrow and threw it to the ground, then jumped backward.

“All of you, come to me. If you’re still the same as yesterday, we can’t talk.”

As soon as I said that, Lipa thrust a wooden sword at the back of my head. Jennifer put up a wall of slime in front of me, limiting the direction I could dodge.

I jumped to the side and checked everyone’s positions. Sylvia pulled out a large cloak and seemed to be aiming at something.

“Don’t get cocky!”

“I won’t forgive you!”

“You’ll regret this!”

“I’m going to beat you up!”

“I will overthrow you!”

Everyone is directing their murderous intentions and hostility at me.

This is the way it has to be. Before the giant magic beast appears, we have to train and expect the worst.

Even if I manage to get on the giant magic beast, my body might be taken over by the ancient people of Midgard. If that happens, someone will have to stop me.

I don’t really trust myself. I can’t see my own abilities objectively, and if the Ancients, whose evil I can’t see, tell me it’s true, I’ll probably believe them.

There’s a good chance I’ll be deceived. I know my weaknesses.

Even the contract for the demonic land was a deception, so I might be blown away by the Ancients.

I, the landowner of the demonic land, cannot be deceived, and I cannot allow the demonic land itself to be used at will and the surrounding areas to be overrun. I cannot bear the thought of the modern era being invaded by the ancient one.

A ridiculously strong hero or magical beast might appear and stop me, but if possible, I want to be stopped by these guys fighting right in front of me.

Ice magic balls rained down around me, and a barrage of poison arrows flew right at me.

After I’m deflected by the slime wall, Lipa slashes me with his wooden sword. I jump backward, weaving in and out of the gaps between the ice balls and the slime wall.

It’s a bad habit of mine to jump backward when I’m dodging…

Just as I think this, an indigo cloak wraps around my body.

The next thing I know, the cloak turns into a rope, and I’m rolled on the ground, where everyone is looking down at me.

I seem to have lost easily. There are bruises all over my body. It looks like some of my bones are broken as well.

“I am sorry. I said too much. Tell me what happened.”

“I-I stopped the time of Makyo.”

The cloak Sylvia had spread out had a magic circle sewn into it, almost identical to the one carved into the concrete on the East Coast.

My time must have stopped, and in that time, they must have beaten me.

“It was a game to see if my heart would start beating again. Please don’t do this kind of experimental training. It’s bad for my heart.

It seems that my intentions were understood.

“I’m sorry.”

“You were acting? That’s not like you, Makyo.”

“It was half acting. But I’m glad I trusted you more than myself.”

“You’re quite dependent on other people, aren’t you?”

“I count on you. If it comes to it, I’ll count on you.”

“I’ll do my best.”

“It’s going to be a lot of work.”

I untied the rope and applied the healing medicine to the damaged area.

“By the way, does this cape have any effect on magic?”

“I-I think it does, but why?”

“I found a way to move in the air.”
