Chapter 121 – Day 13 of the Strategy Life

We had a luxurious breakfast in the demonic land, consisting of fried eggs and bread with eggs, and prepared to head north. As usual, Chel and I wore our coats. The leather on the coats was getting softer, so it wasn’t so hard to move around in them.

As we were blowing the Guardian Spider to the west and east, Lipa came flying over on his broom.

“Is something wrong?”

I asked Lipa, who had landed in front of me.

“No, Hel-san was communicating with some kind of monster spirit and told me to go see what Makyo-san and the others were doing. What are they doing? Are they leveling up or something?”

“Ah, it’s not like that. You see, if we go into the giant magical beast and mess with it, the giant magical beast’s stride might change, right? So we’re going to push the monsters out of the way.”

“Ah, I see!”

“It would be a shame if they got crushed without knowing it. There are also big monsters, so if the environment changes, we might have to start all over again.”

“I understand.”

“I guess you thought I was going to do something strange again. Don’t worry; there’s a good reason. Or rather, can Hel communicate with monster spirits from anywhere?”

“I don’t know, but you would have to ask her…”

“Makyo didn’t notice it, but last night, the monster spirits went north. And wasn’t it only Hel who noticed?”

Chel came up to me and gave me a spine-tingling explanation.

“I’m not killing all the monsters one by one. I just blow them up, so why do they become spirits?”

“They were already monster spirits.”

I looked around to see if there were any monster spirits around. I couldn’t sense any. Well, it’s better that I can’t sense any spirits because it would be scarier if I could.

“Can you ask Sylvia if she can lead the monsters away?”

“Okay!”

At Chel’s request, Lipa got back on his broom and flew north again.

“Can Sylvia really do that?”

“If she can persuade the big monsters, maybe the smaller ones will move as well.”

“Is that possible?”

We continued our journey north, hoping that Sylvia would be able to accomplish this seemingly impossible task. After blowing away all the Guardian Spiders we could see, we saw a cloud of dust rising in the northern sky.

“Maybe they’ve started to move.”

Jennifer was right, and after that, we could no longer see the monsters that had taken refuge between the footprints of the giant magical beast.

It seems that the monsters that were hiding in the caves and the giant bones are also starting to move.

The giant monkey and giant bear monsters looked at us and threatened us, but when we looked at them without hostility, they chased away the smaller monsters and ran away.

Of course, the monsters that came toward us were sent flying east without question.

We took a break to eat lunch in the footprints of the giant magical beast. I’m not moving, but I’m sweating, so I’ll wash my inner clothes as well.

“This is amazing. They can sense our intentions…”

“It’s thanks to the abilities of the spiritualist and the vampire.”

We replenish our salt and water levels with dried meat and water and then check our bodies for any abnormalities by releasing magical power into them. Chel and I are in perfect health. However, we may not have enough energy if we only eat dried meat and bread.

“Please eat some wild herbs as well.”

Jennifer handed us a bowl of stewed, bright green soup. The soup had a mixture of aromas that confused my nose, but strangely, it tasted like a normal vegetable soup. It seemed to contain chicken bones.

As we were about to leave with our dry inner clothes, Lipa flew over with Hel and Sylvia. Either they were light, or Lipa’s magic power had increased, but the speed of the broom was stable.

“Everyone is here. Can you persuade the monsters, Sylvia?”

“N-n-no, I just combined it with Hel’s spiritualism…”

“I just surrounded the monsters with animal spirits and chased them away. Sylvia communicated with the big monsters by drinking their blood. The abilities of the vampire clan are unique.”

“T-That’s not it. Makyo, you have to tell us these things in advance so that we don’t panic.”

“Oh, I’m sorry. I don’t think about it when I’m living in the demonic land, but when I think that a common disaster is approaching, I suddenly become aware of my role as a landowner.”

“I can understand that. That’s why we cooperated. The evacuation of the monsters north of here has been completed.”

“Then shall we all return to the northern base?”

Since Hel, who can’t use magic, is also with us, we don’t go very fast on our way north.

“Oh, by the way, there’s something strange about the rocky area where the base is located.”

Hel reported as we ran.

“What?”

“There’s a huge outbreak of frog monsters I’ve never seen before.”

“T-the ground is shaking too.”

“The wyverns and death condors aren’t flying.”

Everyone who had been to the northern base talked about the changes in the environment.

“Is the weather changing?”

“The clouds are moving quickly.”

Hearing this, both Chel and I turn our heads and shoulders.

The giant magical beast is finally approaching.

“If it rains for a long time, it won’t be strange if it comes at any time. It was like that before.”

“I’m going to sweat, so I want to bring a lot of spare underwear, but do you have any?”

“Don’t worry, I’ve prepared some.”

We arrived at the rocky area in the evening. It was drizzling, and we could hear the croaking of frogs everywhere. The frog monsters, which were about the size of a medium-sized brown dog, were jumping around.

The ground also shook like waves. It seemed that the sleeping salamander monsters had woken up and were swimming around in the muddy ground, eating the frog monsters.

If you run, your feet will get stuck in the ground, but if you use the rocks as a foothold, you’ll be fine. However, you’ll wake up the crab and lizard monsters that have turned into rocks.

In addition, the succulent plants that absorbed the drizzle have grown at once, sprouting purple and red leaves and flowers.

The area we could see had already become a mass of succulent plants teeming with monsters instead of the quiet rocky area it had been. I could also hear what sounded like human screams, probably from the ghost monsters that had appeared, but I was glad they weren’t attacking us.

“This is a completely different scene from this morning.”

“I-is this what it really looks like?”

“…..”

Hel and Sylvia were surprised, and Lipa was speechless.

The well at the base is slightly higher than the surrounding area, and the ground is well-drained, so it doesn’t even get muddy. Nor does rainwater flow into the well. Perhaps this is the wisdom of the engineers who built the well.

“When it starts to rain in earnest, the landscape might change again.

“After all, it is the demonic land.”

We carried all the luggage we had outside into the well.

We dry our wet furs and check the food.

There is a lot of food in the relief supplies for Midgard, but we don’t have much in the way of emergency rations. If we don’t need the aid, we’ll just take it back.

Chel bakes hard bread.

It seems that in addition to providing food for when we are on the giant magical beast, she’s also making provisions for later. After the last giant magical beast attack, it was hard to get food.

“Besides, there’s the debris to clean up, and the monsters and plants are in bad shape, so there’s no time to hunt or gather. We’d better do it while we can.”

“I see, that’s how it is…”

Hel and the others agreed.

“If we can’t trade at the military training facility, the food situation in the demonic land will be terrible.”

“From now on, we can also trade with the Meiju Kingdom.”

“I hope the demons can defeat the monsters on the trade routes. We also need to improve the harbor.”

“We can trade with the Cliff Garuda, right?

Lipa asked.

“Well, I suppose that will change when people can enter the demonic land.”

“Wait a minute. Isn’t the only country in the area that can’t trade with the demonic land the Elf Kingdom?”

Hel, who had been pouring the potion into a vial of sap, suddenly spoke up.

“That’s true, but they’re the enemy country that attacked East Kenya, so I guess it can’t be helped.”

“That’s true, but…”

It seems that, as an elf, she has her own thoughts on the matter.

“Well, do you think we could dig a tunnel from the demonic land to the mountain range?”

Sylvia asked Hel.

“That could be a good idea. There are a lot of elves who don’t understand the difference between evaluation and performance…”

Hel muttered as she looked at the empty wall.

As night fell, the rain began to fall harder.

When I went out of the well to see what was happening nearby, I found a muddy river. I couldn’t hear many frogs. It seemed that the fish monsters were swimming in the river, making noise as they went, and heading north toward the mountain range.

The succulent plants had grown taller than a person and were spreading their leaves. I could hear a muffled frog croaking from the base of the plants. As usual, the plants in the demonic land seemed to be carnivorous.

I went back to the well and read P.J.’s notebook by the light of the magic stone lantern. I’ve already memorized most of it, but I checked the entrances to the ruins that I hadn’t discovered yet. I had to be careful because the time axis might change if it was a dungeon.

“Don’t get tired before you enter the giant magical beast.”

While saying this, Chel brought us some hard bread and tea.

“I thought I’d do as much as I could and then regret it. Wouldn’t it be harder if I did nothing and came back with nothing?”

“Maybe.”

The bread is probably good for preserving, but it doesn’t taste very good.

“It’s not very tasty.”

“I’ll try to make it more sour.”

Chel is also busy preparing.
