Chapter 124 – Day 16 of the Strategy Life
Looking around, I see fallen trees, rocks, stones, and the corpses of monsters scattered everywhere.
After getting off the giant magical beast, Chel and I spend the night at the site of Midgard. Last night, we could hear the Guardian Spider moving around. The “migrating” monsters, who had acted as if they didn’t care, seem to have flown away and are returning to the lake one by one.
From dawn, plants began to sprout, growing rapidly through the gaps in the bodies of the monsters that had been killed by the giant rocks, storms, and tornadoes.
It seemed that the giant magical beast’s footprints were as usual, and my prediction was wrong. The time-traveling Haze Turtle has no head and no will, and it keeps treading on the same spot.
“Was that unnecessary?”
“Because I already blew it up once.”
We didn’t need our coats anymore, so we walked north at a leisurely pace. Since we didn’t have any weapons, the Guardian Spider didn’t attack us.
We arrived at the well, our base in the north, before noon.
“Welcome back!”
“It looks like you’re all right.”
Jennifer cleared away the dead trees and rocks that had been blown over, and Hel took our luggage out of the well.
“Is everything okay over here?”
“Yes, the storm and the tornado were terrible…”
Jennifer took our luggage and offered us some wild herb soup with meat. As usual, it looked terrible, but it didn’t taste bad.
“Where are Sylvia and Lipa?”
Cher asked Hel.
“Sylvia went to the mountains to bring back the wyvern child that fell into the well, and Lipa is probably flying around to check for damage.”
“Oh, that’s right. This one has the Keeper of Time in it, so we’ll talk to him later.”
Chel immediately handed over the iron cube containing Lute’s senior. It was wrapped in cloth, but if you imbued it with magic, it would turn into a golem.
“Did you kill it?”
“No, we took it from the graveyard. We even met the guardian, who was the only one left alive. He said they were all slaves from Midgard.”
“A slave from the city… Maybe it was a former criminal. It is probably just like us. Wouldn’t it be safer for Makyo if we just turned the spirit into a golem?”
Hel threw this at me while I was eating wild herb soup.
“Yes, golems are much better than spirits. But won’t they run away? Even Sylvia can’t control a golem because it has no blood, right?”
“With Makyo and Chel here… how could they run away?”
When you put it like that, I wonder…
“We could deal with the monsters that got out of the dungeon.”
“Couldn’t Makyo have dealt with the golems in the desert in the first place?”
“If you put it that way, I guess I could.”
I wondered if it would turn out that way, but without hesitation, Hel removed the cloth wrapped around the iron cube and rolled it onto the ground.
The stones around it gathered a bit, but nothing special happened. We’ll just be careful for now.
“Chel, try to put some magic into it.”
“Okay.”
Chel puts her magic power into the iron cube. It’s not a huge amount. It’s about the same amount of magic power you’d need to light a fire.
But it was enough to cause the stones and sand around the iron cube to gather and form a humanoid figure about the size of a child. It seems that the iron cube is a product of the finest ancient magical technology.
“Good morning, Keeper of Time. Welcome to 1000 years in the future.”
For some reason, Hel looks dignified at times like this. Maybe it’s because she’s an elf, but she’s showing her best side. I think I can leave her in charge.
“Did Midgard get out of the dungeon?”
The child golem asked Hel as he looked around. It has a shape and is clear, so I’m not afraid either.
“No, not yet. We just got you out of the graveyard. Tell me your name.”
“You are an elf spiritualist. Are you from Midgard or Satra?”
The golem tried to jump away from Hel, but its legs collapsed, and it fell to one knee.
“Do not exert yourself. You don’t seem to be fully in control of your body yet. There isn’t much magic in you either.”
When Hel tried to touch it, the golem brushed his hand away.
“Don’t touch me. Answer my questions.”
“Satra is gone. Midgard is gone, too. We are the people who live in the demonic land that was formed on the site of Yggdrasil. It has changed in the last 1000 years. Can you see it?”
“No, I cannot see it because I have no eyes. But I can feel it. Is that person the king of 1000 years in the future?”
The golem pointed at me. Its arm doesn’t seem to be collapsing.
“No, I’m the lord of this demonic land. My name is Makyo. I want to hear many things from you.”
“I also have many questions. Where am I?”
“You are in the north, near the mountain range on the border with the Elf Country. You can see the rocky area, can’t you?”
“I thought there was something huge there, but it’s that mountain range… Is there a Mirdel Highway to Satra?”
“Are you talking about the road? There’s nothing there. It’s all buried.”
Hel explained.
“I see…”
“What is your name?”
“Ka-Ryu. I am half-dragonfolk and half-elf. I will not curse you just because it is an abominable blood. I am the first to become the Keeper of Time and the last to receive the title of Knight of Yggdrasil.”
The fact that she has the character “Ka” means that she comes from the same low class of elves as Ka-Zira, right?
“The dragonfolk are also the royalty of this country. There is no more of that abominable blood flowing through your body, and it has no meaning in this demonic land. I welcome you. Tell me the story, Keeper of Time.”
I said, pouring magic power into Ka-Ryu.
Immediately, the stone and sand gathered, the broken leg healed, and Ka-Ryu’s body grew into adulthood. Its chest swelled, and its hips softened. Although its stance was like that of a guard, it seemed that Ka-Ryu was a woman.
“If you want magic power, you should go to Makyo’s side. Be careful because if you get too close to Chel, you’ll get sucked in.”
Hel gave her advice on how to survive as a golem.
“Well, I think it’ll be okay because I’m wearing the magic seal bracelet. There’s no point in running, so don’t do anything troublesome.”
Chel also gave her advice on how to survive in the demonic land.
“We just evacuated because the giant magical beast has left. We’re moving our base, so we’ll listen to the story later.”
Jennifer also explained our situation.
Ka-Ryu nodded and looked confused.
“What do you mean ‘giant magical beast’?”
“No, that’s the magical beast Ka-Ryu rode.”
“The ten-thousand-year haze turtle. I bet it’s grown a lot.”
“It’s not just grown a lot. It’s almost a catastrophe. It walks around without a head.”
“What…!”
It seems that Ka-Ryu had already died before the giant magical beast’s head was cut off.
First of all, it seems that the giant magical beast is only fed to the turtle so that it can move around the dungeon without getting in the way of people from later generations. When I told her that it seemed to be moving along the same route now because it might be sent off somewhere in space, Ka-Ryu predicted that the Midgard mathematician had probably been frozen.
“A disaster… What a terrible thing.”
The inhabitants of 1000 years ago apologized to me, but there was nothing I could do at the moment.
Soon, Sylvia and Lipa returned.
“I am Sylvia, a member of the vampire clan. I make weapons in the demonic land.”
“Wow, you brought the Keeper of Time with you? That’s amazing! I’m Lipa, a member of the birdmen.”
Sylvia seemed to have expected something like this since we were all there, but Lipa was surprised.
“The birdmen are some kind of beastmen, right? Have they evolved?”
“Yes, there’s also a birdman nation called Cliff Garuda in the south of the demonic land.”
Ka-Ryu didn’t change her expression, but she shook and said to me, “I feel the weight of a thousand years.”
Ka-Ryu seems harmless enough, so I’ll let her teach me the story at her own pace.
“For now, let’s go back to the cave in the west. The sun is starting to set, so we’ll set up camp in the forest.”
“””Roger that.”””
Since we might need to use the well for shelter again, we decided to leave everything that was not essential behind. We loaded our backpacks with food, daily necessities, bedding, etc., and started moving. Ka-Ryu strapped herself to the back of my pack.
“You’re a noble, but you don’t act like one, do you?”
“Because we are only six. What’s the point of acting like a big shot?”
“Six people? Six people in the territory of Yggdrasil?”
Ka-Ryu was surprised that only six people lived in the demonic land.
The forest plants that weren’t in the path of the giant magical beasts immediately attacked us, but Jennifer and Lipa dealt with them as they saw fit. There were things like pine cones that burst open and large puffball mushrooms that shot out paralyzing spores.
We could also hear the sound of the bendgrass eating the monsters. The herd of treants was also moving, but they didn’t seem to be paying any attention to us.
“Are the genetically modified plants in the botanical garden escaping?”
“No, the plants in demonic land are just like that. They hunt monsters without a care in the world.”
“Are all the plants in the forest like that?”
“Yes, pretty much. Wasn’t it like this a thousand years ago?”
“No way was it like this. If the plants in the forest are so belligerent and carnivorous, how can the country develop at all?”
“When you put it like that, you’re right…”
It seems that the environment of the demonic land is indeed unique.
At midnight, Hel chanted a spell over Ka-Ryu. It seems that she is trying to fix the spirit in the golem’s body. She says she will chant every night from now on.
Ka-Ryu accepts this without complaint.
The demonic land has gained another strange resident.
