Chapter 30 – Interrogation
Compared to the noisy arcade, the restroom in the back of the building was rarely used.
Before anyone else arrived and caused trouble, she needed to accomplish her goal quietly and quickly.
After pushing her way into the private restroom, Aire fixed her icy gaze on the woman in front of her.
The woman, who was part of the group that had followed them, appeared to be in her thirties.
Now sitting on the toilet seat, her face was pale, and her lips were trembling.
Her eyes were unfocused as she desperately tried to figure out how she had been discovered.
(She has a weak heart for a spy…)
For Aire, being a spy was a life-threatening job.
If she was discovered, not only would her life be taken, but she would be stripped of all her dignity.
That was the impression she had of someone with such a determination.
To stop the woman from dwelling on unnecessary thoughts, she slapped her face.
“Kyaaa! S-stop it! What are you doing?”
“I know you followed us. Just answer my questions.”
“F-following? I don’t know anything. Are you mistaken?”
“There is no mistake. Several people took turns following us from our house. Five… no, six? Maybe more?”
“I don’t know. Who are you, anyway?”
“Right, six.”
The woman was astonished, unable to hide her surprise, but Aire knew everything.
The hormonal imbalance caused by anxiety and fear, such as adrenaline, the sudden increase in sweat, the drop in blood pressure, the rapid increase in pulse, and the rapid beating of the heart.
Smells and sounds clearly reveal a person’s state of mind.
No one kept secrets from Aire.
“I ask the questions. You just answer what I say. Who is your client? What is your purpose? If you tell me honestly, I won’t hurt you.”
“I don’t know… Agh…!”
“I’ll make it easier for you to tell me.”
The woman opened her mouth wide to scream, but no sound came out.
Immediately after Aire stuffed a handkerchief into the woman’s mouth, her hand flashed.
As Aire’s hand touched the joint between the woman’s shoulders, her upper arm bone instantly dislocated, and a faint sound of bone popping out could be heard.
Her arm hung limply, swaying back and forth.
The woman’s already pale face became as white as bleached paper.
She bit down hard on the handkerchief, but if she hadn’t, she might have screamed and broken her teeth.
The most unexpected thing for the woman was that Aire had no reason to hesitate in torturing her.
In the other world, with the existence of potions, the threshold for torture was extremely low.
Besides, for Aire, who had sent countless warriors to their deaths on the battlefield or in the arena, this was nothing.
In fact, she considered herself quite considerate for settling for a dislocation that could be easily repaired.
From the woman’s perspective, Aire was a criminal who had suddenly dislocated her shoulder; with a single thought in her head, she was someone who should not be touched.
There was an unbridgeable gap between them.
Aire tore off the handkerchief.
“Did you think I’d hesitate? I hope this will make you talk a little more. Next…”
“I-I will talk! I-I don’t know the client. I-I really don’t know, I swear. Please believe me…”
“You didn’t hear anything?”
“Yes, yes. It’s the truth. I was just told to find out who you were meeting and where you were going.”
“I see.”
Aire’s expression hardened slightly, and the woman reacted with exaggerated fear.
She must have seriously thought she would be killed.
Her body shook violently, and the toilet seat rattled with her shaking.
It was clear that her spirit was broken.
(She really doesn’t know anything. I chose her because she seemed the easiest target, but maybe I picked the wrong person.)
If the tail is a man, it’s hard to lure him into the bathroom.
Aire realized her mistake and clicked her tongue. She didn’t want to be seen by an unrelated person during the interrogation. Maybe she should have attacked the leader instead.
“Then tell your boss to get off this case.”
“Y-yes, but my arm…”
“I’ll fix it. Don’t make a sound.”
“Hmm!!! Ugh…!?”
(She fainted from that alone? Is she too weak? Or are these people’s spies really that incompetent? I’ve heard that there are skilled ninja spies, but they’re no different from amateurs…)
With the same suddenness as the dislocation, the woman’s right shoulder was snapped back into place.
Aire’s technique of dislocating and resetting joints, based on a complete understanding of their structure, caused almost no damage to the woman’s shoulder, but how her brain perceived it was another matter entirely.
The sudden change caused her blood pressure to spike again, and she lost concentration for a moment.
She was slapped repeatedly in the face and finally came to her senses.
The knowledge Aire had gained from stealth action games had been greatly misunderstood, which must have been a disaster for the woman.
The woman frantically tapped her smartphone and began to speak quickly as soon as the call was connected.
“President. It’s me. Please. Please stay out of this. I… I’ve been found. Ugh, ugh, ugh, please, please. Or just let me quit.”
“What’s going――”
“You hear that? I know about you. If you come near us again, I can’t guarantee your safety.”
“W-What do you mean?”
“Cut it out.”
“Y-yes…”
Don’t give him any unnecessary information.
She was more afraid of Aire than of her boss.
The woman obeyed without resistance.
Aire rummaged through the woman’s belongings and began checking electronic devices.
This was one of the few things Aire had voluntarily learned about security in this world.
That was information-gathering devices such as security cameras and other recording devices.
“Any other recording devices?”
“Ah…”
“You have one. Hand it over.”
“Yes…”
She must have realized by now that lies don’t work.
The woman moved slowly and took a small microphone out of her breast pocket.
She held a smartphone, a voice recorder, and a small camera.
Aire crushed them all before her eyes.
The woman imagined her own future being crushed by this superhuman strength.
Aire rummaged through her bag and pulled out a business card from her wallet.
“Detective Karasawa, Chihiro Mizuhara. Is this your organization?”
“Yes… Please, I beg you. Please spare my life. I’ll never interfere again.”
“You better leave this town. If I see you again, I won’t let you get away so easily.”
“Hii, hii, hiihh!”
As Aire unleashed her murderous intent, the woman trembled all over and began to gasp for breath.
The sound of dripping water could be heard.
Aire’s warning was serious, and the woman understood it clearly.
She would be killed next.
The woman shook her head violently.
There was nothing left to do.
If she obeyed the warning, that would be fine.
If she continued, Aire was ready to take drastic measures.
Finally, she pinned the woman’s left shoulder and left the bathroom.
“You’re not cut out for this job.”
Aire said sincerely to the woman, who trembled with her head down.
It had been less than ten minutes.
Aire left the bathroom and deliberately relaxed her stern expression.
And she returned her appearance to its original form.
Using the transformation accessories from the Transformation technique, she had disguised herself as someone else.
She had dyed her golden hair brown, made her skin as pale as a yellow-skinned person’s, and changed her facial features and physique.
To make sure the woman wouldn’t recognize her true identity.
“Ugh, I feel sick.”
Aire didn’t like interrogations or other unpleasant tasks.
Intimidating someone who hadn’t even decided to risk her life was out of the question.
Aire massaged her tense face and smiled.
Let’s go.
To her important master and the trusted slave who served the same master.
“I will spoil myself with my master! Nishishishi, I’ll spoil myself as much as possible and drive him crazy.”
She would have to report about the tail later.
But for now, she wanted Wataru and Mariel to enjoy this fun time without worrying about anyone else.
Aire ran back to the arcade.
