Chapter 132 – Day 24 of the Strategy Life

“Use the migrating monsters.”

While having breakfast, I asked Ka-Ryu how to move the floating island, and she replied.

“There are many magic circles on the floating island. The floating island was used as a resting place for the migrating monsters. We hunt the monsters, extract the magic stones, and place them in the pond in the center of the island. The height of the floating island is determined by the amount of magic stones.”

“So you raised the altitude to move it away from the holding mountain? How do you move it? Doesn’t it just fly away with the wind?”

“It does fly away, so we use propellers.”

“What are propellers?”

“Don’t you know? They’re like windmill blades that spin and accelerate by interacting with the air.”

“Isn’t that a magic circle?”

“I don’t know for sure, but it wasn’t a magic circle. I think there were some problems with the use of magic circles. Apparently, in the early days of the floating island, there were a lot of failures, so they tried attaching sails like a ship or huge wings, but in the end, they settled on multiple propellers.”

“I see. Even the people of Yggdrasil make mistakes. That makes me feel better.”

After breakfast, we all went to the ruins of the holding mountain. Since it hadn’t been excavated yet, we decided to dig it up. I was also curious about what might be around it.

Since it was near a mangrove swamp, the area under the mound was muddy, and there were crabs the size of dogs and catfish that emitted weak lightning. As expected, swarms of insect-like monsters attacked us.

Ka-Ryu’s face looked like a gathering place for moths, so we decided to light a fire.

“It would be nice if there were something like incense sticks that could catch monsters…”

“Did they exist 1,000 years ago?”

“Yes, they did.”

“No, they usually still exist 1,000 years later. They’re just not in the demonic land.”

Come to think of it, I think there were incense sticks that caught mosquitoes.

“There might be a flower that emits a scent that monsters hate. Jennifer, let’s look for it together next time.”

Hel invited Jennifer.

“That’s a good idea. We should start exploring wild plants again, or Makyo-san will keep nagging us about the rent.”

They were an unexpected combination, a night owl and a morning person, but they weren’t particularly hostile to each other.

“The farmers have been working harder than ever lately, so that’s a big help.”

Perhaps because I said something insincere, everyone threw dirt at me.

I ignored them and continued digging.

The holding pile was made of concrete, with a hole at the top for a chain. As I dug carefully, I found a deer crest engraved on it. Sylvia tried to hit it with a hammer, but the concrete wouldn’t crack. When Hel swung her knife, it broke easily.

“There’s a time magic array embedded in it.”

Then, I can dig it out with my magic cube.

“Do you know them, Ka-Ryu? The elves who are builders and engrave deer crests?”

I asked as I continued digging.

“That’s the crest of the god of time, isn’t it? It’s for good luck, so I think all builders use it. The Satra builder called Titanes Construction Company was famous.”

“I see. So the emblem is for good luck.”

“Yes, it probably means ‘May the God of Time protect us for many years to come.’ It was carved into the beams of houses, bridges, and tunnels.”

“I was thinking more of a secret society.”

When we dug it up, the holding mountain turned out to be a magnificent pyramid-shaped building. It may have been three stories high. There were side tunnels, and as we walked down the corridor, we found a large lock embedded in the ground in the center of the building.

“That should be strong enough to withstand high winds, right?”

“Actually, there have been a few accidents. Even the people of Yggdrasil can’t defeat the power of nature.”

Ka-Ryu spoke honestly.

“Ka-Ryu doesn’t talk about Yggdrasil as if it’s such an amazing place, do you?”

Cher asked him directly.

“No, I don’t think it would make sense to lie in this demonic land. For example, even if I said there were incredibly powerful monsters in the Colosseum, no one would believe me because Makyo is so much stronger.”

“There are many monsters that are stronger than me, aren’t there? They just haven’t been discovered in the demonic land yet. Besides, there are all kinds of monsters out there.”

As I said this while scratching my nose, everyone stared at me. Maybe today was a day when I couldn’t get along with others.

Since it was noon, we decided to have a barbecue inside the holding mountain.

There’s a hole in the ceiling, so we wouldn’t suffocate. While I was digging, they had apparently prepared salt-marinated crocodile meat, grilled crab, and grilled catfish with herbs.

“Delicious! I can’t complain.”

I sucked on the crab legs and inhaled the magic. My muddy body, covered with holes made by insects, was instantly healed.

In the afternoon, Chel and Lipa said they wanted to continue south and lead Ka-Ryu into the desert.

“There should only be a little desert, but I wonder how far it extends.”

“Let’s see how the giant apes and giant crocodiles are doing.”

“Be careful not to get eaten by sandworms. You should have brought P.J.’s knife.”

“Oh, I brought it.”

Did they prepare everything in the morning?

“Jennifer and I will work on paving the road to the entrance.”

“Yes. I’ll be under your care, my lord. Please use the bathroom before you leave.”

They treat me like a child. Everyone laughs. It’s nice that even nobles don’t have to worry about such things in this demonic land.

I returned home with Hel and the others.

While I prepare a shovel and mask to pick sleeping flowers, Sylvia brings me a harpoon with a hook like a fishing hook before I go to bed.

“What kind of weapon is that?”

“G-g-go get some cam fruit. Chel wants to make jam.”

“Oh, okay.”

“Have a safe trip!”

I made sure to say goodbye clearly.

After two days, the path was completely overgrown with weeds.

“Even if we can do it, it’ll take time to maintain.”

“Should we lay concrete?”

“We have to check the soil layers first.”

There’s a lot to do, but for now, we’ll just cut the weeds and pick the ripe cams. They attack us, so the basket fills up quickly.

Carrying the second basket, I head for the tunnel where the Green Tiger family lives as if nothing had happened.

“I didn’t open this for you!”

As I poked them with a harpoon to drive them out, a large number of striped snakes appeared behind the Green Tigers. They might be poisonous, so I pulled them out with the back of the harpoon and struck them with my fist, which I had enchanted with ice magic.

The snakes coiled up and instantly turned into straight, rod-like shapes. Jennifer tied them together like firewood and cut off their heads with a sword.

“What are you using them for?”

“The magic stones are for weapon materials, and the meat is for food.”

The logistics of the demonic land are well organized.

The carefully collected sleeping flowers were spreading, so we dug a hole and put them in.

Golden bats and lamias also appeared, but they rarely attacked us. Only razor grass and bendgrass attacked us anyway, so I cut them down. Plants in the demonic land will attack anyone who comes near them.

I reached the hill again, so I used a magic cube to dig a hole and make a tunnel.

When I went through the hole to the other side, I found beetle monsters called Hell Beetles and large moth monsters called Big Moths breeding there.

“What is going on? Is it the insect breeding season?”

Arachne is also an insect-type monster.

“What should we do? Should we collect some of the Big Moth scales?”

“Sylvia isn’t going to use them for armor or anything, is she?”

“I don’t think so.”

“How much paralyzing medicine do we have?”

“We have more than enough. We might be running out of jars, though. We always end up with a lot of poison.”

“Then let’s just get rid of the ones that are in the way.”

The insect monsters had knocked down trees, so we decided to exterminate them to some extent.

I stab the big moth that shoots scales with the harpoon, twist off its head, and throw it aside.

Squish, squish, squish!

I heard the sound of the bendgrass, so the body was probably gone.

The mask protects me from the scales.

After cutting the grass and connecting the path, I finally see the small stream at the entrance. Just in case, I poured palm sap on the cut grass to keep the weeds from growing back.

As I washed the yellowish scales off my body in the creek, the slime bit me as usual.

I kicked it away and played with it, and then two elves came out of the forest across the river, muttering discontent.

“Hey.”

“Margrave! What are you doing?”

They looked over and immediately approached us, keeping a safe distance, knowing the slime was there.

“I’m paving the road to my house. I’m also building a tunnel wide enough for a carriage to pass through.”

“Is that so…”

“By the way, you complained earlier. Did something happen?”

The two elves looked at each other hesitantly.

“What is it? If you have a complaint about me, I’ll listen to it. But I don’t think I’m going to make any improvements.”

“We have no complaints about the Margrave.”

“No, it’s not that. Earlier, someone who called himself an elf ambassador came and asked us about armor, and when we said we didn’t know, he said, ‘That’s why you lower classes are so ignorant,’ and left.”

“He pushed me, so I don’t know if he was joking, but… well…”

“Ah, this is not the country of the elves…”

This isn’t the elves’ country, so there’s no reason for them to look down on people just because they’re lower class.

“If someone is rude, you can beat them up. You can say that you’re both guardians of the demonic land.”

“Really?”

“Yes, go ahead. You have work to do, right?”

Several monster skins were drying near the trading hut. They’d worked hard enough.

“You didn’t do anything wrong, so you can hold your heads high.”

At least the captain wouldn’t treat the two forest elves with disrespect. If inexperienced adventurers showed up, it’d be better to send them away.

“I see. I get it.”

“I feel a bit more confident now.”

Both of them are muscular, so all they need now is practice. If they spend a few weeks in the demonic land, they should be able to defeat Lipa.

“Should you two try to enter the demonic land?”

Crunch, crunch, crunch…

The sound of the bendgrass eating the hell beetles echoes.

“We’ll leave that for later.”

“We’re still no match for the slime.”

The two elves were humble.

I shared the unused wings of the big moth with them, advising them to use them as a paralyzing drug, and then returned home.

To build a training facility, we’ll need a path. We must find the right geological formation.
