Chapter 37 – Ship and Aire

As Wataru sat still on the ship, he gradually began to feel depressed.

Although he didn’t mind the creaking sounds or the rowers’ songs, sitting in the cramped cabin was oppressive.

To make matters worse, he couldn’t see anything outside.

Having already finished replying to emails, he didn’t feel like watching the movie he had downloaded.

Wataru sat back down in his chair and muttered quietly.

“… I’m bored.”

“Would you like to read a book, Master?”

“No, I’m just sitting here alone, and I’m starting to feel restless. I think I’ll go out on deck.”

“I’ll go with you for protection.”

“No, that’s okay. Mariel, could you watch the luggage in the cabin for me?”

“Sure, take your time.”

“Thanks. I appreciate it. Let’s play cards later.”

He felt bad about leaving Mariel alone, but the cabin contained all the luggage for the trip.

There was also a large sum of money inside that had been delivered by the Welcome Trading Company, so he couldn’t leave it unattended.

He would take a break later and let Mariel get some fresh air.

When he climbed the stairs to the deck, many sailors were still bustling about.

A slightly damp, cool breeze caressed his face.

He filled his lungs with fresh air and felt refreshed.

“Ah, what a nice breeze! The air feels good.”

“Yeah, it feels good. The view is beautiful, too.”

“I should let Mariel take a break later.”

“Ugh! I’m exhausted from practicing so hard for the first time in a while.”

“I haven’t been able to exercise much lately.”

“Yeah, if you don’t get some real practice in, you’ll get out of shape. You have to be careful.”

“It would be nice if there were someone around here I could spar with.”

“The fight with Ida was fun, but it’s different.”

The surrounding area was a gentle plain covered with a green carpet.

The land was very flat and seemed to stretch all the way to the horizon.

Perhaps because there was little to block the wind, it blew strongly.

White clouds flowed swiftly across the sky.

The strong wind cooled the bright sunlight, making it just right.

Aire held down her long blonde hair as it fluttered in the wind.

Bathed in sunlight, her hair sparkled like gold.

In this world where nothing is hidden, Aire’s tiger ears peeked out.

She was a truly beautiful girl.

She was exquisitely crafted, almost inhuman yet vivid and full of life.

Her large, jewel-like eyes looked at Wataru with joy.

Just by looking into her eyes, it was clear that she was enjoying the moment.

“You’re so beautiful.”

“Yeah, it’s a beautiful sight.”

“No, you’re beautiful, Aire.”

“Thank you.”

Aire blushed shyly.

It’s okay to express your feelings as many times as you want.

Especially if they’re what you truly feel.

Suddenly, he wanted to kiss her.

He grabbed her shoulder and brought his face closer.

Aire closed her eyes, sensing his presence.

Wataru didn’t care about what other people thought.

After spending time with them, he no longer felt bad about Mariel or Aire.

He kissed her slowly, enjoying the feel of her lips.

They entwined their tongues and exchanged saliva.

When he gently bit her plump, elastic lips, Aire’s body trembled.

Her eyes were moist as she gazed at Wataru; she was beautiful.

He played with her sharp canine teeth with the tip of his tongue and gently stroked her ear.

After a while, Aire pushed his shoulder gently, and Wataru pulled away.

The aftertaste lingered on his lips and tongue.

He understood why Aire had ended the kiss.

Captain Masques had left the steering wheel and approached them.

Aire smoothed out the wrinkles in her clothes and stood casually behind Wataru.

“How’s the voyage? Are you enjoying yourself?”

“Captain Masques. Yes, I get bored easily in the cabin, but the view from the ship is exceptional.”

“That’s true. The scenery may be monotonous, but it’s beautiful nonetheless. As the cityscape gradually comes into view and draws nearer, my heart swells with excitement. What do you think of my ship?”

“It’s wonderful. The swaying isn’t too bad, and the way it powers upstream is impressive.”

“I’m glad you like it.”

Despite the relatively gentle current of the river, the ship is powered by a single mast and oars.

This boat, loaded with cargo and moving steadily forward, is impressive.

The crew was skilled, too.

They accurately adjusted the angle of the sails and the rudder to avoid being blown off course by the wind and carried away by the current.

Perhaps the oarsmen were working in unison to make subtle adjustments on both sides.

An arch bridge came into view ahead.

The river was wide, so the bridge was large as well.

It was supported by several piers.

However, considering the height of the masts, Wataru began to wonder if they would be able to pass underneath it.

“You must pass through here often. How do you manage not to hit anything?”

“Oh, it’s no problem. Well, sometimes someone hits something, but…”

“Really?”

“Our ship is fine. Our helmsmen are experienced. Look.”

“Wow, amazing! They navigated that narrow gap perfectly!”

“That’s incredible.”

The ship was buffeted by the wind and affected by the river’s current.

Still, the bow passed directly under the arch’s highest point as if guided by an invisible hand.

The bridge piers passed right in front of them.

They could see the piers sticking out at right angles to the current, spraying water.

They must have been there for a long time, covered in moss.

Even when riding a bus that smoothly navigates mountain roads, Wataru thinks the driver’s skill is divine.

As a nervous driver himself, Wataru felt he would never be able to perform such maneuvers.

Wataru and Aire were impressed and enjoyed watching the ship’s progress.

“But you seem bored.”

“Does it look like that?”

“Yeah, how about it? Want to play around until we get to town?”

“That’s fine, but is that okay?”

“Sure, it’s my job to entertain guests. I can leave it to my subordinates for now.”

Wataru looked at Aire.

Aire had also looked bored since finishing her practice.

He wanted to give Mariel a break, too.

Thinking about it, it didn’t seem like a bad idea.

“What kind of game?”

“Dice. Sailors are known for dice, cards, and alcohol.”

That makes sense.

So, they have dice in this world, too?
