Chapter 44 – Royal Capital

The next morning, they left Jadeblue Town and experienced another eventful day on their journey.

They stopped at a town with a fairly well-known dojo, so Aire joined the training to keep her skills sharp. She went a little wild while Wataru tried it out and was blown back more than ten meters.

They watched a mock battle between the master and Aire that was beyond human comprehension. Actually, Wataru couldn’t follow it, so he didn’t see it.

That night, the bloodthirsty Aire crawled into bed, and the night battle began.

After all the excitement, Wataru and the others finally reached the third day.

As planned, they arrived at the royal capital.

“It felt both long and short.”

“I think I’ll take a break from ships for a while. It’s hard to stay still.”

“I’m tired of reading books all the time.”

“Playing cards all the time isn’t fun either.”

When Wataru and the others went out on deck and saw the royal capital, they couldn’t help but cry out.

The royal capital was located on flat land.

The city was surrounded by walls that towered above it.

Since they were looking up from downstream, they couldn’t see inside the royal capital.

Only a few tall buildings were visible.

A wide river surrounded the city, serving as a moat.

Perhaps the reason it was a flatland castle rather than a mountain castle was because defeat was certain once the royal capital was invaded.

In a sense, it could be called an administrative city completely focused on urban functions.

From the ship, people could be seen walking toward the royal capital on the roads. Merchants’ carriages, horsemen, monster riders, and armed people who appeared to be adventurers could be seen leaving the royal capital.

Wataru is impressed by how the other ships gather on the river without colliding.

“Wow, that’s amazing! The royal castle is so cool!”

“It’s been a while since I’ve been to the royal capital, but it feels like I’ve come home.”

“The view from the ship is nice.”

They gaze at the royal capital from the ship, each with their own impression.

A strong wind blows, filling the sails.

The sun shines brightly, and the weather remains fine.

It’s a perfect day for sightseeing.

As they approach their destination, they decide to discuss the purpose of their trip.

“Mariel, you lived in the royal capital for a long time, didn’t you?”

“Yes, I attended the Royal Academy.”

“Then I’ll leave the sightseeing to you. From what I’ve heard, there are many famous places to visit.”

“I’m looking forward to it! I want to see as much as possible.”

“Fufu, this is a big responsibility. I understand. I’ll do my best to show you around.”

As expected of a royal capital, the royal capital has art museums, theaters, historical museums, various guild events, and religious facilities. It is very lively, and visitors could easily spend a long time there, depending on how they feel.

“Let’s confirm our objectives in the royal capital. We have a lot to do.”

“Understood.”

“Yes!”

Mariel and Aire nodded seriously at Wataru’s words.

This is a sightseeing trip, but it won’t end there.

Wataru was glad the two understood.

Wataru held up one finger.

“First, we need to buy some things. If there are any valuable items that can only be found in the royal capital, I want to buy them.”

“The royal capital has the most abundant selection of goods, except for some specialty items that can only be found locally.”

Especially medicine, magic items, enchanted items, medicinal herbs, and plant seeds. There’s so much I want to see.”

“Come to think of it, didn’t we talk about buying my sword in the royal capital at first?”

“Oh, that’s right. That brings back memories. I completely forgot.”

“I remembered the whole time, though.”

The prices will be high, but it has the best selection in the country.

Considering how much time and effort it would take Wataru and the others to travel there and purchase specialty items, it wouldn’t be surprising if they wanted to buy something expensive.

“The second thing is to find information about Mariel’s family.”

“Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule, Master.”

“Don’t worry about it. I have business in Mariel’s hometown. I want to find out if it’s possible to grow coffee trees there.”

Once they find Mariel’s parents, they plan to rescue them immediately.

Ideally, they will be able to live without any problems through some connection.

It’s possible that Mariel’s parents have been enslaved, too.

If so, it will be necessary to negotiate with the buyer.

There are many things to consider, such as securing their livelihood afterward, but abandoning them is not an option.

They also need to find out who the lord of Mariel’s hometown is and if the government is functioning properly.

Wataru held up three fingers.

“The third is to gather information about the gate. We could ask the researchers at the institute, the library in the royal capital, or scholars studying history at the academy.”

“I have a teacher from my old school who specializes in history. I will consult with him and ask him to introduce me to someone who knows more about the subject.”

“We will be relying on you, Mariel. Please do your best.”

“I will be happy to help you, Master.”

Mariel said that with a bright expression, which made Wataru happy.

It was essential to determine whether the gate was stable, whether it would continue to function, and what it was in the first place.

It would be better to find another gate or confirm if this one could be activated.

Would it lead to a different world, another place in this world, or somewhere other than Osaka?

There were countless possibilities.

“But the security check is really long…”

“We’re moving quickly, so just wait a little longer!”

“Got it.”

After a sailor passing by told them that, Wataru and the others prepared for their journey while waiting to enter the capital city.
