Chapter 32 – Returning Home After a Long Time

The journey from Southern Ship Town to the royal capital took three days by boat.

On the return trip, however, they used the gate and traveled instantly.

Once you get used to such convenience, it seems impossible to go back to the way things were before.

The problem with the gate, though, is that it closes off all possibilities for discovery along the way because it is so convenient.

The unique atmosphere, experiences, and encounters that can only be experienced during the journey are lost.

To master the gate rather than be bound by it, one must deliberately refrain from using it on some days.

Wataru and the others passed through the gate again, this time from Southern Ship Town to Osaka, and experienced the heat of September for the first time in a long while. They grimaced as they hurried home.

In Osaka, the lingering summer heat typically lasts until around the beginning of October.

Wataru emerged from the shrine and grimaced at the heat.

“Ugh, it’s been a while, but Japan is still so humid. I’m going to turn on the air conditioner as soon as I get home.”

“What is this town? Everywhere I look, there are tall buildings and crowds of people! Where in the world is this place?”

“Cloche, you’re embarrassing us by acting like a country bumpkin…”

“Oh, didn’t Aire have the same reaction?”

“No, not at all. I’m always calm and collected.”

On the way home, Wataru’s cell phone vibrated repeatedly with notifications, but he was afraid to check it, so he decided to wait until he got home.

As expected, Cloche looked around nervously and started making a commotion. Wataru ignored her and hurried to the apartment building.

It was difficult to get on the elevator.

“T-the floor is rising! I-I’m scared!”

“Calm down. No one is scared. It’s safe.”

“It’s good that no one is passing by.”

“Exactly. Today is the first day I’ve ever been glad we live in a one-floor apartment.”

When they got out of the elevator and tried to open the front door, Aire raised her hand to stop them.

Wataru wanted to get inside quickly. What could Aire possibly want?

Aire looked serious as she focused her attention on the front door and the inside of the apartment, relying on her sense of smell and hearing.

The air was tense, and Cloche also fell silent and went on alert.

“Wait a moment, Master. We’ve been away from home, so I’ll check to see if anyone’s broken in.”

“I see… Please do.”

He didn’t know how much the world knew about potions.

It was unlikely that someone would break into an apartment building suddenly, but Aire had always been security-conscious.

“Hmm, it looks okay. There are no signs of forced entry.”

“Good job.”

“Hehe… Leave it to me.”

Because Aire always does her job as a bodyguard well, Wataru always feels safe.

This is true even in unfamiliar places and suspicious locations.

After being praised, Aire squinted her eyes in embarrassment and smiled.

“All right, let’s go in. I’m home.”

“”We’re home!””

“I-I’m back.”

He unlocked the door and stepped inside.

Finally home, Wataru exhaled in relief.

Only Cloche remained, still a bit confused.

〇〇〇

“Here’s your iced tea, Master.”

“Thank you. You must be tired now that we’re home. Yes, it’s delicious.”

“I also think this tea tastes better than before.”

Mariel’s tea was more refined, and the aroma of the tea leaves stood out.

With one sip, the aroma of black tea gently spread in Wataru’s mouth, and a cool sensation passed through his throat.

As the air conditioner cooled the room, Wataru sank into the sofa, feeling his body and mind relax.

He was back.

He hadn’t planned to do anything today.

It had been a fun day, but he was still tired, both physically and mentally.

He planned to take it easy for the day and start working on Earth again tomorrow.

As Wataru and Mariel relaxed on the sofa, Aire returned from checking the security camera on the balcony and the gravel. He opened the refrigerator.

He poured ice into a glass and filled it with cola.

“I want something fizzy. Do you want some, Cloche?”

“Y-yes, please. What is this? It bursts in my mouth! It’s sweet! It’s delicious! I can’t believe it! I-I’m going crazy!”

Cloche was overwhelmed by the intense sweetness of the carbonated sugar, a sensation she had never experienced before. Wataru and Mariel laughed.

“Aire, come rest here too. Cloche, come too.”

“Okay.”

“Got it.”

The two of them sat down on the sofa obediently.

Even though they were all beautiful, each of the three of them sitting side by side had their own unique charm.

He felt both happy and strange about living with such beautiful women under the same roof.

“I think I’ll tell Cloche about myself again. Mariel and Aire, please fill in any gaps if you notice anything.”

After showing Cloche his life in Japan, Wataru decided to tell her exactly what kind of person he was.

That day, he confessed to her that he could travel between worlds and told her about the differences between them.

Chapter 33 – New Request

The day after he returned to Earth, Wataru went to his office and turned on his laptop.

He had written the replies before leaving for the royal capital, and they had been sent last night.

He took several deep breaths to calm down.

“Stay calm, don’t get flustered, take it in stride,” he told himself.

There was no doubt that he had received a lot of emails.

Being busy was beneficial, but meeting many new people and handling large sums of money was mentally taxing.

Wataru stared at the growing number of emails in his inbox, feeling apprehensive.

“Ugh…”

“You groan every time you look at that computer, don’t you, Master?”

“To be precise, it’s the number of emails I’ve received.”

There were more than thirty emails.

It’s good to be busy with work, but considering how many chronic treatment potions are needed, it’s difficult to keep up.

It might be better to use the gate to go to the capital or the pharmacist’s guild in Azure Stream Town rather than just Southern Ship Town.

Everyone in the emails was in trouble and asking for help.

They were willing to pay any amount of money to be cured.

He wanted to respond to their requests as much as possible.

As he glanced through the titles of the newly received emails, he suddenly saw a familiar name.

“Huh…?”

“What’s wrong?”

“Nothing. I just received an email from my favorite singer, Mitsuru Wakai, and I was surprised. He has been performing for many years and is an amazing singer. I’m a big fan.”

“A singer?”

“Yeah, he has an incredibly beautiful high voice, and he’s famous for his three-octave range. Hey, Mariel, would you like to hear some of his music?”

“Sure, I’d love to. I’m interested to hear his music.”

“Well, I’m not sure if you’ll enjoy it, since you’re so familiar with another culture.”

Music has the power to transcend national boundaries, though.

Wataru hopes Mariel will like it, too.

He selected the most famous song from the subscription service and played it.

Immediately after the short intro, a high note rang out.

The song is only about four minutes long, and the high E note is repeated many times.

Even professional male singers find it difficult to sing this note beautifully.

Notably, Mitsuru’s voice is so low that the high note doesn’t sound particularly high. Although powerful, his voice has a soft quality.

His voice has a smooth, expansive quality that doesn’t sound strained and is pleasant to listen to.

Once again, Wataru was impressed by how wonderful a famous song can be, no matter how many times he hears it.

Mariel must have been shocked, too, because she covered her mouth in surprise.

Listening to the song brought back memories for Wataru.

“When I first heard this person’s song, I actually wondered if it was a woman. I couldn’t believe a man could have such a beautiful voice.”

“He’s certainly amazing…”

“But apparently, he injured his throat and can’t sing like he used to. When I heard that, I thought God was cruel. He gave him the most beautiful voice, only to take it away.”

“Then we must use Master’s potion to restore his voice!”

“Yes, that’s right!”

Mariel’s words reminded Wataru of his role.

There are so many talented people in the world.

Yet due to accidents, injuries, or other troubles, they can’t utilize their abilities to the fullest and suffer as a result.

If even one of those people could regain their strength, it would have a positive impact on the world.

If Mitsuru’s throat heals and he starts singing again, many people will rejoice at his return and be captivated by his songs. They will also gain new energy.

He could make the world a better place while earning money.

Thinking about it this way made him feel even more determined to give it his all.

〇〇〇

As usual, Ryota Endo introduced Wataru to Mitsuru.

What is the relationship between Mitsuru and Ryota? Why did he introduce Mitsuru before the other athletes?

As usual, Wataru decided to contact Ryota.

It’s always important to gather information in advance, regardless of who the customer is.

Ryota was in Fukuoka at the time and unable to meet in person, but he made time to talk.

“Long time no see. Thank you for your time.”

“It’s about Wakai-san, right? I’ll ask for your help, too. I want to hear him give it his all again.”

“The pennant race is almost over, isn’t it? Your results seem really good.”

“Yeah, I’ve got a shot at the batting title. I keep telling you I’ll get you tickets, but you never come to see me play.”

Ryota said this in a disgruntled tone, and Wataru smiled wryly.

It was a kind offer, but he didn’t have the opportunity to go see Ryota play.

“I’m busy, too. I was out of Japan until yesterday.”

“Really? Well, you’ve been a big help to me, Wataru. Keep up the good work.”

“Then, next time you play at the Osaka Dome, please get me tickets. I’ll try to make time.”

“Sure. Is three tickets okay?”

He remembered having dinner with Mariel and Aire before.

It was a kind offer, but Cloche was with him now.

It would be cruel to leave her home alone.

“Four tickets, please.”

“You… Don’t tell me…”

Upon hearing Ryota’s trembling voice, Wataru hurriedly denied it.

“No, I didn’t do anything! I’m just taking care of a relative’s child. I thought it would be nice to bring them with us.”

“Next time, I’ll let you practice knocking. I might hit you a little hard, but you have the medicine to treat it, so you’ll be fine.”

“Please don’t!”

“…Hey, if you know any nice girls, introduce me.”

“I can’t promise anything. Besides, is it okay for you to say that?”

He asked earnestly. However, Ryota had recently told Wataru that he had made friends with a famous actress, though he didn’t mention her name.

If their relationship progressed, there would be a scandal.

“Okay, let’s talk about Wakai-san.”

Ryota suddenly changed the subject, and Wataru couldn’t help but laugh.
