Chapter 1 – Future Plans

After cleaning the ancient ruins, Wataru and the others returned home to Earth.

They took a bath to wash away the sweat and dirt, and then they drank tea, feeling refreshed.

They felt ready to take the first step toward making potions themselves.

First, they would learn to grow magic-infused herbs. Then, they would confirm whether potions could actually be made on Earth.

Without adhering to these procedures, long-term, large-scale production would depend on imports from the other world.

Naturally, distribution through the gate would become a bottleneck, rendering it unsustainable.

“Once the storing grass has grown sufficiently, we’ll have Grandpa mix it into his field’s soil, and then we’ll wait for the medicinal herbs to grow again. Winter is coming, so we’ll have to wait until at least spring.”

“That’s a long-term plan.”

“Well, it’s actually abnormal for seeds to be planted and then grow rapidly the very next moment.”

The growth rate of the storing grass in the ancient city is abnormal.

According to what he casually heard from the Pharmacists’ Guild, this phenomenon only occurs in the ancient city because the storing grass is accelerated by magic power, and the city is saturated with dense magic power that could cause a magic disaster.

Elsewhere, its growth rate appears to be not much different from that of ordinary plants.

“What do we do in the meantime?”

“We’ll keep selling potions while trying to secure an alchemist slave as soon as possible.”

“That really depends on timing and luck. It’s a profession that rarely faces hardship, so unless something extraordinary happens, finding someone willing to become a slave is unlikely.”

“Yeah. The slave trader said the same thing.”

That said, it’s not entirely impossible.

There are cases where someone becomes a slave for reasons beyond their control, albeit rarely. Examples include losing property in a fire caused by negligence or becoming a guarantor and inheriting someone else’s debt.

The slave trader, Maso, told him to wait patiently. Since this was work that couldn’t be entrusted to people of bad character, he had no choice but to be patient and wait.

“Next is finding potential farmland with soil rich in magic power.”

“Master doesn’t understand magic power, does he?”

“When it’s as dense as in an ancient city, your body reacts automatically, so you can’t help but notice.”

“That’s an exception.”

Mariel snapped at him.

That was a mistake.

After that, they repeatedly checked his physical condition and asked if anything was wrong.

Unlike Wataru, who was fed up, Mariel, Aire, and Cloche all asked with serious expressions. He understood it must have been a dangerous situation.

“In that case, Mariel, Aire, or Cloche will handle the land selection.”

“I’ll handle the actual contract, so that part’s fine.”

“But are lands rich in magic power even for sale? I can’t imagine it.”

“Indeed… From our perspective, it’s land we’d never want to part with. But most people from Master’s world likely wouldn’t notice the magic. So, I think there’s a chance.”

“Is there a possibility?”

If Wataru’s perception was the standard, then most Japanese people couldn’t sense magic.

However, they could vaguely sense an atmosphere as an indescribable feeling.

Examples include prime locations that mysteriously repel people, shrines with an inexplicably refreshing atmosphere, and places known as “power spots.”

While not universally accepted as common sense, some people hold these sensations in high regard.

“I think the possibility of it being sold somewhere is quite high. The problem is that we need to go to the site and confirm the magic energy levels. We might have to try many times until we hit the jackpot.”

Negotiating with real estate agents will be tough. Maybe they should just drive around, find a place rich in magic, and check if it’s for sale.

Since it’s hard to predict how often they’ll find such spots, it might be good to go explore anyway.

Given Wataru’s current financial situation, acquiring such land within Osaka City was quite difficult.

However, there was a good chance of finding land rich in magic in areas outside the city or near prefectural borders—untouched, unmanaged mountains.

He might end up searching for such mountains in the future.

“If we buy a mountain, we can train our hearts out over there, right? Nishishi.”

“Just make sure no tengu show up and turn it into some modern-day supernatural mess.”

“Tengu? What’s that?”

“A tengu? Well, I wonder.

It was tricky to explain when asked directly like that.

Wataru pulled out his phone to look it up, but he was surprised to see a flood of notifications waiting for him.

“Whoa! I’ve got a ton of calls from Ryo-chan.”

“Did something go wrong?”

“I hope it’s not another one of those requests I can’t refuse, like last time.”

Endo Ryota had called multiple times, and the messages were piling up.

The fact that he couldn’t wait for a reply meant that he was probably in a hurry.

While Wataru was in another world, he had no signal.

Naturally, he had no way of knowing about the phone calls, and the notifications arrived late.

He knew Ryota was involved and that he owed him a lot.

Without his help, Wataru wouldn’t have his current income or connections.

Growing to the same scale would have required many more steps and likely brought extra trouble along the way.

“This might be a bit of a problem.”

A long message had arrived on the messaging app. Wataru read it silently for a while, but gradually, his expression turned tense.
