Chapter 12 – Short Course

As a result of visiting Ines’ parents and being found out by Ines’ mother in one way or another, most of Ines’ secrets were revealed. Ines’ father and Dario-kun, who was quite shocked by the story, were almost unable to fight. Only Ines’ mother turned out to be an educator, so I had to leave Ines behind.

“I was worried about Ines being a slave, but I was relieved to see her having fun. Please take care of Ines from now on.”

As we left Ines’ parents’ house, Flora-san called out to me. I felt like she was subtly pulling Ines down, but I guess she was worried about her from the inside.

“Yes, I will do everything I can to help. Please play with Ines while she is here.”

“Fufu, I doubt that Ines will have time to play, but I will go and see how she is. Well, I’m going this way, so I’ll leave you here.”

“Haha, excuse us then.”

Ines… will she be educated so much that she won’t have time to play? Yes, no doubt. Her mother was really upset about that.

Well, her daughter has gambling debts and sold herself. And even though there is a way to be released immediately, she has been swept away in an amusing direction, a slave contract with no end in sight… That makes her angry, doesn’t it?

“Wataru-san, we still have some time before dinner; what do you want to do?”

“Um, is there anything Alessia-san and the others would like to do?”

We had planned to meet Dario-kun, so we haven’t decided anything after that. What should we do?

“Well… it’s halftime, so we might as well check the Adventurer’s Guild to see if there are any interesting requests. It would be difficult for us to get into the sea, but there might be something.”

Interesting request… Come to think of it; I had to take a course before I could go out to sea on my own ship to the underwater ruins.

“So, let’s split up until dinner tonight, shall we? I’m going to stop by the Merchant’s Guild and check out the course for going out to sea.”

“Is that so? Ines isn’t with you, so shall we go with you?”

“No, Felicia is with me, so we’ll be fine. Let’s meet at the inn.”

I came to this country out of the blue without telling anyone where I was going, and even if someone is after me, as expected, they won’t be able to catch up with me yet. Then there’s the possibility of getting tangled up with the usual Adventurer’s Guild, but… if I go to the Merchant’s Guild, it should be fine.

“Rimu too!”

Rimu shakes in my bag. That’s right; Rimu is a fine force to be reckoned with, no joke. I apologize to Rimu while patting the bag.

“Is that so? …But I’m still worried, right? Marina and Claretta, you should go with them.”

“All right.”

“Yes, all right.”

By Alessia-san’s order, Marina-san and Claretta-san will come with me. I was grateful for their concern, but I was saddened by their lack of trust in me.

“Um, please take care of me.”

Marina-san and Claretta-san smile at me and say, “Don’t worry about it.” Fuu-chan jumps out of Marina-san’s chest and dives into the bag with Rimu in it. Fuu-chan, I thought I hadn’t seen you, but what an enviable place you’re hiding in.

“Wataru-san. I’m sorry about Fuu-chan.”

“N-no, Rimu is happy to see her too, so it’s okay. Then let’s go to the Merchant’s Guild.”

I feel sad and envious, and I don’t know how to describe it, but if Marina-san and Claretta-san are coming with me, it should be fun, so let’s call it a date with three beautiful women and enjoy it.

***

“Is that all you need?”

“Yes. If you just want to take the boat to the underwater ruins, we can give you permission after about an hour of training. However, if you want to go underwater to explore, you must be accompanied by an adventurer who has accepted your request.”

We went to the Merchant’s Guild, showed my guild card, and talked to the receptionist, who told me that getting a permit was as easy as Ines had said.

“When can I take the course?”

“It would be strange to say any time, but as long as you are not busy, you can take the class while there is daylight. The instructor is available, and I think we can start right away.”

“Really? Is it that easy?”

There is usually a set day and time, right?

“Yes. There are very few people who go out on their own boats to the waters of the sunken cities, so it would be a burden to hold regular training sessions. So we switched to private training, which is much more flexible. However, the course fee is a bit high and requires five silver coins. You can share the cost, so it’s more economical if you take more than one class.”

Five silver coins. Even though it is a private class, it seems a bit expensive.

“Are there so few people taking the class?”

“Yes. If you want to see the sunken city as a tourist, there is a special boat for sightseeing. The part of the sunken city that can be seen from the boat is fully explored, and adventurers do not sail there. The fishmen need a different certification, so the only people who take the course are those who want to visit the sunken cities on their own boats.”

I wonder what they do with the sea monsters, but if a spectacle like a sunken city is a tourist attraction, even in this world where there are few common denominators for sightseeing, there is at least a pleasure boat-like business.

There are other ways to see the sights, but the enthusiasts with their own boats are the ones who take the boats out. I guess that means they don’t have a problem with a slightly higher price.

“I see. Is that all?”

“Yes. So what do you want to do about training?”

“Well, can you give me a minute? Marina-san, Claretta-san, I heard that I can take the class now.”

I asked the receptionist to wait while I checked with them.

“Since you have time, why don’t you take the class now? It would be a hassle to go back and forth, wouldn’t it?”

That’s right. It would be easier to take the class now, just as Claretta-san said.

“I understand. I’ll take the class now. What about you, Marina-san, and Claretta-san?”

Since it would be lonely to be alone, I would let Felicia join without even asking her. But it would be more comforting if there were more of us, so if possible, I would like them to join me.

“Hmm, what should I do? It would be enough if only the person who will be operating the boat takes the course, right?”

Claretta-san asks the receptionist.

Claretta-san asks the receptionist.

“Yes. But we will also explain the precautions to be taken at sea, so if you want to go out with them, it would not be a bad idea to listen to the instructions.”

Nice push, Receptionist-san. Marina-san and Claretta-san listened to the receptionist’s words, and after a brief discussion, they decided to take the course together. That’s reassuring. Oh, I’ll have to pay for the whole class. It would be a shame to ask her to go out with me and then have to split the tuition.

***

“It turned out to be more useful than I thought.”

I heard it was a simple course, but I learned a lot of things I didn’t know. I felt a little sorry for the teacher because I was a little ignorant and asked a lot of questions, so the class took a little longer than I expected.

“Fufu, even the teacher was surprised, wasn’t he?”

“Yes, it was a glimpse of Wataru-san’s abnormality.”

“…How can I put it? I’m ashamed of myself.”

I was dismayed that I was sailing around in a magic ship without knowing the rules of the sea and with a very thin knowledge of the sea.

But I guess I couldn’t help it. I had never operated a ship when I was in Japan, and even now, because of my skills, I operate a ship as if I somehow understand the knowledge.

I know from the course that I don’t have perfect knowledge. Even if I understood it perfectly, I could not operate a luxury liner by myself, so it is meaningless.

“Well, it was a learning experience, and I managed to get permission to take the boat out, so let’s just say it was good. Well, we still have some time before dinner.”

“That’s right. Well, it is a delicate hour, so shall we take a leisurely stroll through the royal capital and return to our inn?”

“Shall we?”

Forcing myself to end this delicate and embarrassing topic, I changed the subject, and Marina-san joined the conversation. If it had been Ines, Alessia-san, or Ilma-san, they would have teased me in an amusing way, so I feel I was lucky with this choice of people.

I especially want to thank Felicia. I have exposed my ignorance, but she has gently stayed by my side without saying a word. She has been very helpful.

Also, Rimu and Fuu-chan were twitching in the bag at the beginning of the class, but they must have been bored because they fell asleep. This is natural, but the training was too fast for Rimu and Fuu-chan.

Well, let’s go back to the inn while we take a leisurely stroll through the royal capital. I hope we will find something interesting.

***

“Welcome back, Wataru-san. It took you quite a while.”

When I returned to the inn and went to the room of Alessia-san and the others, I found that everyone had already returned. Well, it took us quite a while to get through the training and walk around, so it was only to be expected.

“I’m back. In fact, I talked to the Merchant’s Guild, and they told me I could take the course right away, so I did. Now I can sail to the Sunken City tomorrow. How did it go with Alessia-san and the others?”

“Ara, you’ve already taken the course. As for the Adventurer’s Guild, well, we knew that, but there weren’t any interesting requests that we could take on.”

Let’s just pretend that the training didn’t take as long as it did because of my ignorance. Neither Marina-san nor Claretta-san are the type to make stories out of other people’s failures, and I’m sure I can cover it up.

Oh, Marina-san laughed as if she understood that I was trying to cover it up. If she laughs any more, Alessia-san and the others will take an interest, so please bear with it.

“Well, we came here on vacation this time, so let’s take it easy and go sightseeing, shall we? Now that I’ve taken the class, why don’t we go see the sunken city tomorrow?”

“That’s right. We originally came here for sightseeing, so that’s fine. Now that we have decided what to do, shall we have dinner?”

“I guess so. I look forward to seeing what kind of food they serve.”

The breakfast was subtle, but the grilled monster fish for lunch was delicious. It’s a pretty good inn, and I’m looking forward to dinner.

Does he not believe he’s a captive. I think this is strategy might have been discussed between the girls long ago. The fear of the idiots power and the fear about what might happen if he were used by nefarious individuals. It would be too easy as they know he obsesses about boobs and is easily manipulated. They tend to always keep part of the group around him even though he has his 2 slaves. He wouldn’t care regardless.
