Chapter 17 – Submarine Selection

In order to rescue Ines from her parent’s house, I talked to the Adventurer’s Guild to get some kind of request, and I was able to get such romantic information about the duke’s castle. In return, Flora-san will be worried about me, so I’ll have to make it up to her later. But first, let’s get the map from the worried Flora-san.

“Don’t worry, Wataru-san is more amazing than Flora-san thinks.”

“Ufufu, you can rest assured that he is not so stupid that he would commit suicide without any chance of winning.”

While I was wondering how to convince them, Alessia-san and Ilma-san gave me some cover. Apparently, these two are also interested in the duke’s castle in the sunken city. They looked very excited.

“But you say it’s a ship that won’t sink even if it dives. That’s not a ship, is it?”

When you put it that way, yes, it is. Do submarines fall into the category of a ship at all?

“Yes, it’s not a ship. But Wataru-san seems to be sure, so it’s okay. Right, Wataru-san?”

Alessia-san looked at me with a very expectant look. For some reason, she has a great deal of trust in me. Normally, a ship sinking in the sea would be unbelievable, but… Well, I summon all kinds of unusual things, so it’s a little late for that. Considering the luxury liner or the amphibious Ranger, a submarine would be acceptable.

“Yeah, as long as I can borrow an awesome ship from an awesome person, it will be fine. If not, we’ll settle for a leisurely sightseeing tour.”

Ugh, I wonder if it’s okay for these people to look at me like that. The guilds in this country must have heard about the mage, but they don’t seem to know that I’m involved, so I guess it can’t be helped. Well, it can’t be helped if it comes to that…

“I’ll be fine; I’ll be fine. So please give me the map.”

Let’s just go through with the momentum.

***

“Master. As expected, what about him?”

Felicia asked me with a slightly worried look. I understand very well how she feels. I just gave up trying to convince Flora-san and got the map by asking her hard and persistently.

“Well, I understand what you’re saying, but we have the map, so there’s no problem.”

It was just a little embarrassing for me, Felicia, Alessia-san, and Ilma-san because of all the attention we were getting. Alessia-san and Ilma-san laughed amusedly, so no problem, but I felt a little sorry for the serious Felicia, you know?

“But even if you didn’t force yourself to get the map today, couldn’t you have just asked another receptionist to get it for you later as normal?”

I see. I must have been a little stubborn. I was happy to get the map, but I guess there was an easier way. It’s embarrassing.

“Yes, you could say that. But I didn’t want to do anything that would betray Ines’ friend, Flora-san.”

“I see…”

Felicia nodded her head in understanding. Felicia is nice, but I think she’s too nice, isn’t she?

“Well, it was fun, and we got the map, so who cares. But more importantly, Wataru-san, what kind of ship can dive into the sea?”

Alessia-san asks me with sparkling eyes. Her curiosity seems to have been piqued.

“Well, I haven’t checked it thoroughly yet, so I’ll explain in detail later.”

I just confirmed the existence of the ship on the ship purchase screen, so I can’t explain it in detail because the specifications are vague.

“Oh, I see. Then let’s check it out quickly!”

Alessia-san smiled. I guess she’s just curious. Well, I’m pretty excited, too, because I’m about to experience a real treasure hunt. When it comes to otherworldly fantasy, a treasure hunt is an iron rule, isn’t it?

In my case, I’ve changed my profession from adventurer to merchant, so I feel like I can finally experience the high road of otherworldly fantasy.

“I understand. Let’s go back to the inn and choose the ship.”

This is starting to get fun, so let’s quickly choose a submarine and begin our adventure and rescue of Ines.

***

I didn’t know there were so many different types of submarines. Why are there so many kinds? In Japan, I have never heard of a rich person owning a submarine, but I wonder if private submarines are common overseas.

Also, when I clicked on the “Submarine” tab on the purchase screen, something like a military submarine even appeared, but what does that mean? If it were a military submarine or something, it would still make sense, but a private submarine? It’s kind of super luxurious, like a luxury liner… Is there such a demand in the world?

“Whew.”

I thought other worlds were weird, but I guess there are enough weird things on Earth. I finally realized how I had been living in a small world when I came to the other world.

“Master, have you decided which ship to buy?”

“Has it been decided?”

As I looked up at the sky after realizing that Earth was not to be underestimated, Felicia and Rimu spoke to me.

“No, I haven’t made a purchase yet. I checked them all out, but there are so many different kinds, I’m not sure what to do.”

Since I was in the mood for some kind of healing, I hugged Rimu, who was flapping his wings and flying hard, and answered while hugging him. Yes, since I’m in the mood, let’s get Felicia to give me a lap pillow. I need a lot of healing right now.

“Are there so many ships diving in the ocean?”

“Yes, more than I expected. I’ll have Alessia-san and the others wait, so I’d like to choose one soon, but it’s hard to decide.”

When I went back to the inn to look for a submarine, I was sandwiched between Alessia-san and Ilma-san and couldn’t calmly choose a submarine, so I asked them to go back to their room. They looked quite disappointed, and if I had made them wait too long, they would have stormed into my room.

As for me, I was very happy to be sandwiched between Alessia-san and Ilma-san, but it was an expensive purchase, so I wanted to choose calmly.

I feel like I should just buy an expensive one since I have the money, but the problem is that I have to do charity work to give back to this continent for the money I spent to buy the ship… I’d like to experience what a luxury submarine is like with almost 10 billion dollars, but it’s hard to add 10 billion dollars worth of charity work.

Even just one platinum coin that the God of Commerce-sama told me to spend on charity, and I’ve hardly reduced it…

“It’s an expensive purchase, so please don’t rush your decision.”

“Wataru, do your best.”

“Yes, I’ll do my best.”

With Felicia’s lap pillow and Rimu’s support, I’m 100 times more energetic. It was getting kind of tedious, but let’s make a serious choice without getting knocked down.

I get motivated and check the purchase screen again. It also says how long it can dive, but that has something to do with water pressure, doesn’t it? When summoning a ship, the default effect is basically indestructibility, and if it doesn’t break, then I shouldn’t have to worry about the depth of the water.

First of all, a two-person submersible is different this time, right? I want one for playing around, not for exploring with a large group. No, maybe if I buy a bigger submarine and use it as an extension? Especially if we’re going to be exploring castles, I might need a sub that can turn into a small circle. I’d hold off on that one.

A submarine that can hold 3 to 6 people and explore the ocean floor. This seems like a good choice for exploration. It has an arm, so I think I can open doors and such, and I think I need to buy this one. But even if I buy a six-seater, there are nine of us plus Rimu and the others, so it’s still too small.

If it doesn’t break down, we can squeeze aboard like we did during the war with the Empire, but will the air be okay with the overcrowding? The ship can be made the best it can be, but will the air be replenished? That needs to be tested as well.

Speaking of which, what happens if I summon a normal ship underwater? Will it summon air? Or that it can’t be summoned underwater because it has an unsinkable effect, to begin with? Let’s not forget to check this when we dive underwater.

Next is… This one seems the most comfortable to me, it can hold 10-20 people, and the facilities on board are luxurious, like a luxury cruise ship. It has beds and a living room. It has windows on both sides of the ship, so you can enjoy underwater sightseeing in elegance. It is probably a luxury cruiser version of a submarine.

Finally, a super-luxury version of a submarine. This class of submarine would make it possible to build an independent undersea nation, but it is huge and not suitable for exploration. Even the duke’s castle would probably be inaccessible. I guess I’ll think about it after I fulfill my promise to the God of Commerce-sama.

Considering this, I think it would be best to use a submarine that is easy to stay in, not too big, and can hold 10 to 20 people as the main submarine, and explore with a submersible that can hold 3 to 6 people for underwater exploration.

There is no need to buy two types of submarines, a main one and a secondary one, and we can explore with just the submersible for undersea exploration, but… I would like to have a submarine that allows all of us to explore the ocean floor in a relaxed manner.

Well… the submarine can be operated by Alessia-san and the others using the staff appointment system, and it would be more efficient if I bought several submarines and then divided them up and boarded them without forcing everyone to board together. Ah, but it would be hard to give up the idea of boarding a cramped submarine with a group of beautiful women in close proximity. No, if the air quality were not a problem, I should try it at least once.

Because if I spend the extra money on Ship Summoning, that means I have to work harder for charity, and that’s not good. I am not thinking of eroticism at all. I just cherish the spirit of mottainai as a Japanese person. That’s why I can endure being cramped in a small hut. Yes, I can’t help it. I can’t help it.

Well, now that I have decided on a plan, all that remains is to choose a main submarine and a secondary submarine. Let’s narrow it down to a few candidates and make a final decision after hearing the opinions of Alessia-san, Felicia, Rimu, and the rest of the group.

If I buy a new ship when Ines isn’t here, she might get mad at me, but in this case, Ines has a problem, so I’ll trust that she’ll be fine.

“Yes, I think I have most of the details figured out, so let’s go to Alessia-san and the others’ room.”

“Understood.”

“Rimu play with Fuu-chan and Beni-chan.”

Huh? By the way, are all the members back in the room except Alessia-san and Ilma-san? …Well, let’s go there. If they are not there, we can decide together after dinner.
