Chapter 3 – Battle on the Egg

After summoning the Chris for the second time as a decoy, we infiltrated the Duke’s castle. Drawn by the motivated Rimu, I decided to fight.

I decided to fight, but…

“Felicia. Where’s the Sea Serpent?”

“It seems to be scurrying around, losing sight of us.”

Maybe the Sea Serpent doesn’t have very good night vision? Even though it lives in such a dark place? Do serpents have poor eyesight?

“It knows we’re here, doesn’t it?”

“I don’t know for sure, but I’m sure it’s looking for us.”

If we just wait, we might be able to avoid a fight, but we can’t do that either because of the time limit on the Chris. We’ll have to fight anyway. I contact Egg No. 2 and No. 3 by radio and tell them to fight. First, we’ll attack with magic by coordinating the timing with Rimu and Claretta-san.

“Rimu. When I give you the signal, take the angelic form and release the magic as we practiced. Can you do that?”

“I can…”

Rimu was very enthusiastic, and as soon as I asked him, he transformed into his angel form and started flapping his wings. It’s cute. …We should get started. When Claretta-san starts to draw a magic circle, it will stand out, and the sea serpent will notice us. First, we need to open the hatch.

“Master. The Sea Serpent has noticed us. It is coming towards us.”

Is it sensitive to sound? If it’s aware of us now, we can’t make the first move. I move the hull forward and point the hatch in the direction the Sea Serpent is likely to come.

“Rimu! Attack. Felicia, radio Alessia-san and the others. Tell them to turn on the lights.”

If it notices us, we’d rather fight in the light than in the dark. The light might bring other Sea Serpents to us, but if we fight, they will notice us either way.

When the light was turned on, I saw the sea serpent coming toward us. It is more powerful than what I see in the sea. Is it because it is on its home ground?

When I was a little scared, I saw a magic light hit it. It’s Rimu’s Holy Spear. It seems to do some damage, but as expected, it can’t be killed with a single blow?

Even though it was at a low level, it was able to withstand Ines and Felicia’s biggest magic attack, so there was nothing to be done.

“Rimu. That’s great. You’re attacking so aggressively!”

“…Rimu. Doing my best…”

Rimu’s motivation seems undiminished. A little farther away, a large magic circle is being drawn. Maybe it’s Claretta-san’s magic circle, the one that shoots light arrows until the magic circle disappears.

When the Sea Serpent that has been attacked comes towards us, we are swept away by the violent movement of the water, the hull wobbling and swaying.

If it were attacked directly, we wouldn’t even feel the vibration, but underwater, the movement of the water is transmitted directly to us, which is annoying.

“Felicia. Please make sure that Rimu doesn’t slip out of the hatch. Support him at the hatch, and he will shoot magic at it. Ines, when the Sea Serpent comes towards us, attack it with your sword. It’s a narrow space, so use mainly thrust.”

“I understand.”

“I understand. But it’s too bad that I can’t make any big moves with it.”

I was afraid she might get dizzy, but Ines seemed to be able to relax even with this shaking. I envied her. While I was trying my best to control Egg No. 1, a magic arrow landed on the Sea Serpent. It seems that Claretta-san’s magic circle has been completed as well.

“Ahh… it’s coming this way, isn’t it?”

“Yes, it’s already coming this way.”

Since Claretta-san’s magic hit, it seems to be going that way, but for some reason, the Sea Serpent is charging toward us. Rimu released a spell, but it didn’t care.

“Oh, is it going to eat us?”

Egg No. 1 is shaking like a leaf from the turbulence of the water currents caused by the sudden approach, but the Sea Serpent opens its big mouth wide and bites us. I hope that Ines will be able to intercept it, but as expected, she won’t be able to in the midst of this shaking.

“Maybe this is our chance?”

As expected from a ship with God’s specifications. The Sea Serpent bites us, but there is no shock. Conveniently, I can see the inside of the body through the hatch.

The Sea Serpent seems to have stopped moving and seems to be perplexed. Maybe from the outside, it looks like a big snake trying to swallow an egg in its mouth. …If it keeps swallowing it, it’s going to be trouble, and we’d better attack it, right?

“Definitely a chance.”

“That’s right. Rimu, you shot magic. The strongest.”

“Yes.”

Rimu creates a Holy Spear, but he stays where he is without firing it. The Holy Spear’s glow becomes stronger and bigger, and Rimu’s pulsation becomes more intense at the same time. I didn’t know that you could increase the power of this magic with an addition. I didn’t know that.

“Fire…”

At the same time as Rimu’s words, the enlarged Holy Spear shot into the Sea Serpent’s body and exploded with a blinding flash.

“Gweeeee!”

The Sea Serpent’s short scream… At the same time, Egg No. 1 vomited out of its mouth, and the hull spun around and around with the force of the vomit. I feel like vomit, and I’m not very happy about the situation.

“Hey, Wataru-san! Are you okay?”

Shaking my dizzy head, I answered the radio and received a worried voice from Alessia-san.

“Ah, yes. I’m fine. I’m just a little dizzy, that’s all. Did we defeat the Sea Serpent?”

“It’s limp. It didn’t move when Claretta’s magic hit it, so we must have defeated it.”

It seems that the blow from the inside of its stomach did quite a bit of damage. It’s enough to make a one-dimensional human defeat an ogre, so maybe going inside the body is a winning strategy. I don’t want to do it again, though…

“I’m glad to hear that. Let’s just meet and decide where to start our exploration.”

Considering the location of the Chris, we still have some time. I’d like to at least decide on a policy while we’re at it.

“Master. There’s another one!”

It seems to be another Sea Serpent, even though I didn’t ask for it. I don’t want to fight anymore because I feel like I’m going to throw up if I shake too much…

“Breath coming!”

Why do they keep coming at us? Do they understand that it was this ship that defeated the Sea Serpent earlier?

“I-is it impossible… to evade?”

Because Egg No. 1 is slow. Damn, the Sea Serpent didn’t spit out Breath earlier, so I thought it couldn’t use Breath underwater.

Huh? Sea Serpent’s Breath is water breath, right? Wouldn’t that cause a water current? With a bad premonition, the hull of the boat shook violently, and G’s were applied to my body. It’s like a ball being thrown into the river.

“Um, what happened?”

The spinning finally stops, and when I open my eyes, I see a wall in front of me. I see; we hit the wall and stopped. I guess the lack of impact is probably due to the Boarding Rejection, but in any case, I wanted the water current to have no effect on the ship. No, it seems that if we reject the effect of the water current, it would be impossible for us to continue.

“Master. It prepares the Breath again.”

“Ah, Felicia. There’s a wall there, so we’ll be fine.”

We will be supported by the wall, so it shouldn’t be so bumpy.

“Master. If the walls collapse, won’t we be thrown out?”

The Duke’s castle is in ruins. The hull itself won’t be affected, but it’s quite possible that the walls will crack due to the violent movement of the water. It would take a long time to get back if we were thrown out.

“Ines is right. What should we do?”

“Master. There’s another one.”

One is enough for a home keeper. I don’t mind one more, but more is just a nuisance. What shall we do? …There are three eggs, so we can handle up to one more.

But if they swing around the hull in the current situation, it’ll be me who spreads my vomit all over Egg No. 1 while becoming something like Sea Serpent’s vomit. …Let’s give up the sneaking mission. It’s a shame, but not worth the effort of spreading vomit and diarrhea all over the ship.

“Felicia. I’m going to summon the Hideaway now and call Egg No. 2 and No. 3 to meet us there.”

Fortunately, the entrance hall is large enough to summon the Hideaway. The problem is if the ceiling falls through, but Boarding Rejection won’t affect the ceiling, and even if the ceiling falls through due to the Breath, it will stop at the second or third floor because it’s the first floor.

“Understood.”

It’s about time the Breath got into trouble. I hurriedly returned the Chris and summoned the Hideaway. Egg No. 1 and Egg No. 2, and No. 3 step into the magic circle that appears. Egg No. 2 and No. 3 do not make it in time. It hurts that the distance was separated by the Breath.

Well, it seems that both of them know that they won’t make it in time, and they’re on their way up, so it won’t be a problem to join them.

The entire Egg No. 1 has moved to the deck of the Hideaway. The Sea Serpent seems to be breathing Breath, but it’s definitely much bigger than Egg No. 1, so we don’t feel much of a tremor.

The Hideaway floated up at a good speed and stopped when it reached the ceiling of the entrance hall. I knew this would happen, but I was a little nervous. I got out of Egg No. 1 and stood up straight.

“Master. That’s Egg No. 2 and No. 3.”

Even though they had started moving before the magic circle appeared, they were quite fast. Is there such a thing as a submarine that rises faster? Let’s try it later. For now, I have to give them permission to come aboard.

When I gave permission to board, Egg No. 2 and No. 3 fell into the barrier and spun around because there was no water. If the indestructible effect had not been applied, both ships would have been damaged. Well, even if there is no damage to the ship, there is damage to the people on board.

“Phew, I wish I could have refrained from this method of boarding.”

Alessia-san came out of Egg No. 2, shaking her head. She must have taken some damage to her semicircular canal because there was a twist.

But they broke just before the railing, so it should be better than the first time. The first time, all I cared about was getting into the boat, so I did a few turns and almost threw up.

“I’m sorry. It was an emergency.”

“I know what happened because I was watching you. What about the Sea Serpent that’s out there spitting Breath and the one that’s bumping into us?”

“What should we do about it? I’ve repatriated the Chris, so I’m afraid the other Sea Serpents will come back while we take these guys down, build a launch pad, and get out of the Hideaway.”

“I don’t think you can summon the Chris again…”

“Yes. The Chris is hard to summon as it is now because the line of sight doesn’t go out.”

It is hard to see that the place where it collapses is just a blind spot. There is no way I can summon the Chris in the castle.

Well, even if I could summon it, I would return the Egg and summon the Chris. Attract the Sea Serpent again, then repatriate it, summon the three Eggs, and escape from the Hideaway. The Chris would have to be summoned again, a somewhat tedious procedure.

In this case, it hurts summoning the Castle all the time, and one summoning slot for a ship is ruined. …There’s no point in asking for something I don’t have, and I’ll just have to make the best of what I can.

Then we’ll just have to hunt them down. There are so many of them, it’s a hassle, but if we can fight them on the Hideaway, it’s easier than fighting them on the Egg, so we can make it work.”

“I agree. It’s a hassle, but it will make exploration easier later on, and there’s nothing we can do about it.”

We ended up destroying them. We went from stealth to assault and finally changed the policy to annihilation. How do you say “annihilation battle” in English?
