Chapter 11 – Relishes

We found the treasure room of the Duke’s castle. After much effort, we managed to cut through the wall of the treasure room with a sword and found the treasures. At the same time, the owner of the castle was suspected of being a corrupt nobleman, but since he is probably no longer alive, the statute of limitations has expired.

“Master. Why don’t we go inside?”

Right. I was satisfied to see the surprised faces of Ines and Felicia, but the main issue was the contents of the treasure room, right?

“That’s right. Let’s go inside now.”

I stepped out of the hatch and put my hand on the entrance that was opened in the stone wall… It’s about 2 meters 50 to the ground. The hole was surprisingly high, a height that would have made me worry about injury if I had been in Japan.

But now I can afford it, so I jumped down and landed safely… No, I lost my balance and stepped on the bellows a bit.

I haven’t been doing much exercise, so even though my level has improved, I probably can’t use my body very well. Let’s do more sports on the luxury liner.

Following me, Ines and Felicia jump down. There’s hardly a sound as they land, and I envy their ease.

“Wataru-san. We’ve made a great discovery!”

Alessia-san and the others who had toured the treasure room came running up to me, smiles on their faces. It made me feel a little popular, which made me happy. I am very popular.

“Yes, it’s a great treasure, isn’t it?”

“Wataru-san. I’m so happy. It’s every adventurer’s dream come true to discover such a treasure!”

Alessia-san looked very pleased. Alessia-san was right; we should be overjoyed to have found such a dazzling treasure. This is not the time for me and my stupid delusions of being very popular. But…

“Of course, I’m overjoyed, but it’s so great that it doesn’t really feel real; it feels more like a dream.”

That is such a blatant statement! I had enjoyed the feeling of living as a celebrity on a luxury liner, but my commoner roots began to stir.

To put it simply, I am in a state of overcapacity, and my thoughts are frozen.

“Fufu. It’s so much treasure. I know how you feel, but this isn’t a dream. It’s a historic discovery!”

The excited Alessia-san hugged me tightly. Her armor was hard, and it hurt, but she smelled so good. Ah… Alessia-san went to hug Ines and Felicia.

“I’m sorry, Wataru-san. Alessia got a little carried away.”

Dorothea-san followed Alessia-san with a bitter smile. I see, I didn’t have a sense of reality, but Alessia-san was in a state of excitement. If she’s getting excited and hugging me, I want her to keep getting excited. I would be even happier if it were when she was wearing normal clothes.

“I don’t mind. I’m excited, too.”

Alessia-san, Ines, and Felicia make a lot of noise and hug each other. It’s quite a sight to see.

“Well, all I can say is that it’s shiny, but what’s the treasure like?”

“As you can see from Alessia’s excitement, there are some pretty expensive items here. Too bad there’s hardly any magic tools.”

Hmm? Magic tools?

“No magic tools?”

As expected, I don’t think we can carry a magic ship or a magic vehicle all the way from here, but if there are so many treasures here, it doesn’t seem strange that there are magic tools.

“Yes. This is often the case in other discovered places as well, but in times when magic tools were abundant, the magic tools that were in common circulation were not treasures.”

I see. So even though they are expensive now, they were common in the past. Even if I became a rich man in Japan, I would not keep a television or a microwave in a safe.

“It is a little disappointing that there are no magic tools.”

Tools from a time when the past was wealthier than the present. Just the sound of “lost technology” is enough to make me feel romantic.

“Fufu.”

When I was disappointed, Dorothea-san laughed at me.

“What’s wrong?”

Was there something to laugh about?

“I was just amused at the thought of being disappointed with all these treasures in front of me.”

“Indeed, we’re very extravagant.”

It’s like discovering an endless vein of gold and being disappointed that it doesn’t contain any rough diamonds.

“Yes. It is very extravagant. Speaking of which, Wataru-san, you haven’t seen the treasures yet, have you? I’ll explain it to you, so why don’t you take a look around?”

As someone who could only appreciate the beauty of the treasures when they were shown to me, this was a very helpful offer. Of course, I asked her to take me on a tour of the treasure room led by Dorothea-san.

The tour is like a whirlpool, going from the outside to the center. I was very excited because I had heard that the treasures in the center were quite valuable.

“First of all, there are rare metal coins and bars on this side. They are quite rare even today, but since they are still in circulation, they are not so exceptional.”

“If it were old money, wouldn’t there be a price attached to it as a rarity?”

Old coins, for example, are sometimes worth more than the metal they are made of, aren’t they?

“They’re the money of a civilization that suddenly disappeared, so when you dig them up, you’ll find a lot of them. They are only as valuable as bullion.”

Oh, when a civilization continues, old money is recovered and re-created, creating a scarcity of value for money.

But if the civilization suddenly dies out, a lot of coins are found because they are not re-manufactured, and a lot of coins lie dormant. But since the entire wall is filled with coins and bars, the bullion alone would be worth quite a bit.

Next, jewelry-related ornaments. These are also widely distributed items, so their value seems to be almost the same as it is today.

“Hmm? Dorothea-san. This is a pearl necklace, right? Pearls are supposed to deteriorate over time, so why are they so beautiful?”

There must be no doubt because it was proudly explained in an anime about a famous detective with a smaller body.

“Marina told me that this treasury is enchanted to protect the condition of the treasures. That’s why it hasn’t deteriorated.”

Come to think of it, before we entered the treasure room, I thought it might be protected. I was so preoccupied with the treasures that I forgot about it.

“So the contents of this treasure room are in pretty good shape?”

“Yes. They should be in the same condition as when they were stored in the treasure room.”

Antiques sometimes increase in value over time, but I don’t think they increase in value that way. But there are some things that break or lose value, so the breakeven… no, if it had been invaded by seawater, the damage would have been significant, so it would be a significant plus.

“Hmm? …Rimu. What are you doing?”

Rimu has small to large gems glittering in his body. Huh? I feel like I’m missing something. What is it?

Oh, that one. It’s not the same size, but it looks just like the one with sparkles inside the Super Ball. It’s supposed to be a lump of rubber, but it bounces so much you’d be surprised. It feels nostalgic… I mean, no.

“It’s fun.”

As I grow impatient, I receive Rimu’s extremely satisfied intention. I know he is satisfied, but that’s not the point. How should I react?

“Wow. Rimu, you’re so pretty,” or “You shouldn’t eat that.” Should I tell him to throw it up? I mean, can Rimu even digest jewelry?

“Rimu. It’s very beautiful, but won’t it make you sick? And you shouldn’t eat it.”

“I don’t eat it… It’s okay.”

Good. It seems that he does not intend to digest the jewelry. If he wanted to eat it, I would have had to smack him. Huh?

“Dorothea-san. How should I feel about this? It’s wrong to play with jewelry, but since jewelry is also an ornament, it’s not wrong to think of it as dressing up, right?”

Instead of wearing necklaces and rings, it is fashionable to wear jewelry inside the body. Maybe that is the trend.

Dorothea-san is very confused by my question.

“It’s beautiful, isn’t it? Ah, Beni-chan!”

After worrying for a while, Dorothea-san replied in a weak way. Beni-chan, who was on Dorothea-san’s shoulder, jumped onto the jewelry shelf and began to look at the jewelry.

“Be-Beni-chan…”

Oh, the usually composed Dorothea-san looks dazed. She can’t stop Beni-chan because she gave him permission so carelessly, can she? Beni-chan is surprisingly intelligent?

When it comes to Rimu and Beni-chan, Fuu-chan will probably join the fray. When I looked for Marina-san, I found her appraising the treasure with Fuu-chan on her head. Fuu-chan doesn’t seem to have noticed us. I can’t wait to see what will happen when we meet her later.

“Dorothea-san. Rimu and Beni-chan seem to want to play a little longer, so shall we continue?”

“Oh, yes. That’s right.”

I guess she is worried about leaving Beni-chan behind. Dorothea-san is so cute; she is so nervous. I’ve gotten used to Rimu going off to different places to play. It makes me a little sad. I’ll get back on track and continue my tour of the treasure room.

Hmm. I can understand that sparkling jewelry and precious metals look expensive, but I have no idea about vases, paintings, and sculptures. There were weapons and armor, but they were more ceremonial than practical, so I guess they were useless for adventures.

“Dorothea-san. I know they are valuable because they are in the treasure room, but what is the value of these works of art?”

“I don’t know the value of the artwork myself. If the piece is popular among royalty and nobility, it must be expensive.”

It seems that Dorothea-san and I are on the same level when it comes to art. I’ll take it back and show it to a connoisseur. Oh, Mauro-san has connections, so why don’t we let him look at it at the Castle? As a store manager, he should know a lot of connoisseurs, right?

Well, we’ve enjoyed the appetizer portion of the treasure room. Now it’s time for the main course. The treasure among many treasures. I think it will satisfy me.

I tried to be cool, but I hope it’s a simple treasure that even I can understand.
