Chapter 12 – Main Dish
The treasures of the treasure room. I left the main dish and looked around. Lots of rare metals, coins, gems, ceremonial weapons, armor, and works of art. Even these dazzling treasures are appetizers, and now we will finally see the treasures among the selected treasures. I can only look forward to that, right?
Went to the center of the treasure room with Dorothea-san, Ines, and Felicia. The members of Girasole other than Dorothea-san are also gathered there, making a lot of noise with excitement.
I had high expectations even before I saw it. Will the best treasure of the Duke’s castle really overcome this hurdle?
The main attraction in the middle of the castle is clearly visible from a distance. Originally, I wanted to make this the last one, but I can almost guess what it is, so let’s check it out first. The expectation is that it’s a treasure sitting around the center.
“These are the scales of a Ryu, right? They look like the scales of a Wind Ryu, but since they are blue, are they Water Ryu?”
It is said that the scales of a Ryu have sacred power. I cannot feel that power, but I am sure it is there because it has a strange intensity.
Nowadays, Ryu scales are so precious that some countries do not even have them. In the past, it was easy to get them, or maybe the Duke did something bad to get them…
It’s in the middle of the treasure room, so I’m sure it’s a very valuable treasure that was hard to get even in the old days. In this case, I feel that the Duke-Bad-Guy theory is almost certain.
“Yes, it’s a Water Ryu scale. I thought it was a miracle just to have the Wind Ryu material, but to see the Water Ryu scales as well, it’s an incredible stroke of luck. But if we were to make this public, there would be another big fuss. What are you going to do, Wataru-san?”
Alessia-san asked me in an annoyed tone, having changed from her good mood. During the time of the Wind Dragon, we got into trouble with the guildmaster of the Adventurers’ Guild, and we had to talk to the bigwigs and have a parade of sorts. I don’t think I want to go through that again.
“There is only one Water Ryu Scale, and as for the Ryu Scale, I think we should just keep it to ourselves. As for the other treasures, we’ll figure out what to do with them after the exploration is over.”
I’d like to discuss making weapons and armor with the Wind Ryu materials, and I’d probably make equipment with the Water Ryu scales anyway. I think Wind and Water Ryu armor would be kind of cool.
Come to think of it, we lied about only having two Wind Ryu scales, and we donated one and auctioned off the other. Lying about these things is going to be a source of trouble, and if we’re going to make it, we should all have a good talk about it.
“Ufufu. I agree. If we don’t tell them, they won’t know.”
…It’s just a normal thing to say, but when Ilma-san says it, it sounds like an ecchi content, doesn’t it?
“We’ll keep the Water Ryu scales to ourselves, but what about the treasures around us? Were there any treasures that caused a stir?”
“As soon as we entered the treasure room of the Duke’s castle, there was a treasure that would have caused an uproar if it had been discovered, and it was more than the Water Ryu scales.”
I was told something very blunt, but I also heard some words that I couldn’t ignore. A treasure that is greater than the scales of Water Ryu? That’s not funny, is it?
“What is a treasure greater than the scales of Water Ryu? Isn’t something like that usually displayed in the center?”
“Fufu. Maybe the scales of the Water Ryu were so large that they were placed in the center to balance them out. Well, I don’t know how people thought in the past.”
That’s also true. I don’t even know my ancestors from three generations ago.
“I’ll explain it to you, and we’ll look at it together. Although the most precious treasure is the last one.”
She gave me a big smile. The treasure that makes Alessia-san so excited is something to look forward to… Come to think of it; I think it is a dangerous thing if it is beyond the scope of the Water Ryu. It’s starting to scare me.
Although I was a little scared, I listened to Alessia-san’s explanation and checked out the treasures in the center.
Hmm. There are three treasures that are suitable to be the main treasures and are easy to understand.
A fist-sized jewel that would be attached to the scepter or crown of a king on Earth.
A miniature of the Duke’s castle, about a meter long and wide, elaborately crafted with an abundance of rare metals and gems. I don’t understand why the windows are made of jewels. Is it a replacement for stained glass?
It seems to be a jewelry box, but it is a jewelry box made of jewels on the outside. The meaning of a jewelry box is questioned in this work. There was a big diamond inside.
I could tell just by looking at these three that they were expensive. Except for the fist-sized jewelry, the other two are just stupid jokes by stupid rich people.
The rest of them are works of art that I don’t understand, but the fact that they are placed in the main part of the room means that they would have been first-class works of art in the old days.
“Finally, the greatest treasure of all! Wataru-san, do you know what this is?”
Even if you ask me if I know what it is, it’s a coral figurine, no matter how you look at it. The size is completely different, but the texture looks exactly like the coral figurine I bought in the city of Terni on the southern continent.
“They are beautiful, but they are coral, aren’t they? Is it really that rare?”
The beautiful and colorful coral grows like a tree, but it is about the size of a bonsai tree and not exactly like the core members of the treasure room. Among the sub-members, there were many items that looked more expensive than this treasure.
“Ines. Please explain it to him.”
Why is Ines explaining?
“Master. This is coral, but it might not be just any coral!”
“Y-yeah. I see…”
Ines started to explain with such force that the words seemed to appear in the background, but I couldn’t keep up with the flow.
“There is a fairy tale passed down in the Aquamarine Kingdom. The treasure in the fairy tale could be this.”
Is it something like the three sacred treasures of Japan? No. Does the fairy tale mean that Urashima Taro’s Tamatebako really existed? If so, I can understand Ines’ excitement.
“If it’s a possibility, we still don’t know if it’s real, do we?”
“That’s right. You can’t tell if it’s real or not until you try it. But since Claretta felt that God’s power was in the box, it is not a bad thing.”
God’s power? I looked at Claretta-san, and she nodded, smiling. God’s power means it’s a sacred treasure, right? In the past, it seems that the Creator God-sama used to interfere with the lower world, so it might not be impossible.
“So, what kind of power does this fairy tale sacred treasure have?”
“The Sea God’s sacred treasure freely controlled the currents of the sea. Because of this power, the Duke’s family prospered and became wealthy through trade.”
Oops, I thought the Duke was a scoundrel, but now there is a possibility of false accusation from another angle.
Still, the sacred treasure of a sea god, huh? I’ve met many gods, but I don’t remember Sea God-sama. It’s possible that he visited the castle, but if I met him, I would remember him, right?
The God of the Sea may be the God I need to believe in the most. The next time I have a chance to meet the gods, I will ask them about the God of the Sea-sama. I hope it’s a goddess.
“Hmm? But if he could control the sea, the Duke’s castle wouldn’t have sunk into the sea, would it?”
I feel like the legend reeks of something fishy. Even if it were God’s power, it would be too powerful. My Ship Summoning is also quite powerful, but if I could free the oceans, I’d be a cheat who could conquer the world.
“Master. It’s not about controlling the sea; it’s about controlling the sea currents. It’s the current, so if the land is sinking, there’s nothing you can do about it.”
I see. If he can manipulate the ocean currents, it’s much less of a cheat. But to put it another way, it is possible to trade with a raft without using a ship, let alone a magic ship.
“I understand. It’s a great treasure.”
But it’s not that subtle. In my case, I think the only benefit would be the time saved by riding the currents. It saves fuel, but fuel is replenished with thought. Hmm, it would be useful… if it’s somewhere that can’t be penetrated by regular boats, like the southeast island.
“Alessia-san. Do you want to sell this sacred treasure?”
“Huh? If you really want to, Wataru-san, that’s fine, but if you sell the sacred treasure, it will be nothing compared to the scales of Wind Ryu, right?”
“That’s right, Master. With this sacred treasure, we’ll be the only trade winners on this continent, and even the southern continent will be on our trade horizon. The continent will be in ruins.”
I only heard that for a minute, but Alessia-san and Ines were vehemently against it. The other members look like they don’t want me to do it either.
“Don’t worry. I don’t intend to sell the sacred treasure. If you don’t want to sell it, I’d like to use it here.”
“Oh, I see. Of course, it’s okay. It’s a sacred treasure that goes well with Wataru-san’s abilities.”
“Oh, I’m thinking of using it on the Dark Elf Island, not by me. I think they are safe for now, but if the ocean currents can be manipulated so that people cannot easily enter the island, then safety can be assured.”
There are no reefs like on the southeast island, but the violent currents alone should greatly reduce the number of ships that can enter the island. Even if they do invade, if the number of intruders is small, they can be surrounded and beaten to a pulp.
“Master…”
Felicia looks at me feverishly, her eyes moist. This is that one, isn’t it? My favorability with Felicia is going through the roof.
“Wataru-san, that’s a good idea. That island is home to dark elves, ore veins, and hot springs, so it would be dangerous without protection if anyone found out. If the protection of the sea were perfect, we’d want to live there, too.”
Even Alessia-san praised me. The other members of Girasole are also looking at me favorably, and I think I’ve raised my stock a lot with this exploration.
“Well, you know what? It hasn’t been decided yet that the sacred treasure is the real thing, you know. So if the sacred treasure is real, can I use it on Dark Elf Island?”
I love to be praised, but I guess I’m a bit of a slacker when it comes to the reputation that comes with it, and I’m afraid to take precautions.
I’m kind of stuck in the middle of nowhere, and there are still a few places left to explore. Let’s quickly load the treasures onto the rubber boat and head to the next location. I wonder how many rubber boats it would take to collect all the treasures at once?
