Chapter 37 – Loyalty and Affection

Baron Moye issued a permit to enter the castle, a kind of pardon, and handed it to Wataru.

On the smooth parchment were Moye’s own signature and coat of arms, as well as a note allowing Wataru to enter the castle and pass through the gates with priority.

Carefully, Wataru accepted the precious object, which was rarely issued, and placed it in his pocket.

“Well, in exchange for this kaleidoscope, I will exchange the permit and the sword of your slave.”

“Certainly. If you don’t mind, may I check the contents here?”

“Of course.”

“Aire, I’m counting on you. If I pull it out carelessly, I might cut my hand and hurt myself.”

“Yes.”

It is never allowed to pull out a weapon in the castle without permission, but the contents must be confirmed as genuine.

This is different from whether you suspect the other party or not, and it also means confirming that the negotiations were completed without either party having any doubts.

She must still have had some doubts.

However, Aire acted with dignity, took the Great Tiger Ice placed on the table, and pulled it out of its sheath with a refined movement.

The flow of the series of movements, which she must have refined again and again since her youth, seemed to Wataru to be far more beautiful than a kaleidoscope.

“Yes, this is definitely the sword of our clan. Thank you, Master, for restoring my pride and the pride of our clan.”

“I’m so glad, Aire.”

“Yes…Umm!”

She must have been overcome with emotion.

While she tried to keep her composure as much as possible, Aire’s voice was shaking.

Her eyes were moist, and her face was flushed.

The sight of her head bowed and her shoulders trembling was something that touched even Wataru’s heart.

It must have been a precious time for the busy Moye, but he was not the kind of man to interrupt a conversation, so he drank his tea quietly and watched as Aire calmed down.

Eventually, the shaking stopped, and Aire looked up with a very bright expression on her face.

Until now, her cheerful attitude and speech had given no hint of her sadness, but it seemed that she was still feeling a great deal.

Wataru reflected that he hadn’t even noticed.

“This time, don’t let go. Work hard.”

“I will serve you with all my heart and soul. My body, my mind, even my soul are yours.”

“Hey, hey, you don’t have to go that far.”

“No, I’ve made up my mind.”

Aire knelt on one knee, bent low, and bowed her head.

It was a family custom handed down from the Golden Tiger tribe, different from the knight’s oath.

Wataru thought it was a serious declaration.

She was saying that she would dedicate her life to her master.

Just as Wataru was about to give her a chance to reconsider, thinking that she might be overthinking things, he received unexpected support from Moye.

“It would be rude to refuse. It is said that the Golden Tiger tribe never betrays their master once they have chosen one and pledge their loyalty with all their strength.”

“Is that so?”

“Yes. However, they are proud of their strength. In particular, it is said that an excellent warrior like your slave chooses the master they will serve, and once they have chosen, they never change their minds. Many people want to have the Golden Tiger Tribe as their vassals, but even if they can hire them with money, they can’t get their hearts.”

“I bought them without knowing anything, but that’s the way it is, isn’t it?”

“You are an interesting man to be able to make such a Golden Tiger tribe swear allegiance to you.

If Aire hadn’t become a slave.

If Wataru hadn’t followed William’s advice and gone to the slave trading house.

If Aire’s beloved sword hadn’t ended up in the hands of Baron Moye, perhaps none of this would have happened.

Now, thanks to a series of coincidences and small strokes of luck, Wataru has earned Aire’s unwavering loyalty.

He worries whether he can be a worthy master for this loyalty.

But the fact that he could help in this way made Wataru happy.

“Now, I would like to show you my many precious possessions, but unfortunately, I am very busy. I have given you a priority, but there are still many things I have to attend to.”

“Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule.”

“Oh, it was a very meaningful time for me as well. If you like, I would like you to enjoy a tour of my territory. It may not be as good as the royal capital, but I think you will enjoy it.”

“I need to look at some accessories and buy some medicine.”

This time, he had changed his plans at the last minute.

After finishing his negotiations with Baron Moye, he had planned to go around the city again.

He wanted to get his hands on at least some of the ornaments that the local industry was putting a lot of effort into.

“Is that so? Have you visited Star-Gazing Hill yet?”

“No, I don’t know about that.”

“It’s a famous place in my area. It’s less than half a day’s walk from here, and strangely enough, monsters don’t approach it. It’s considered a sacred place.”

“So that’s why this town is also called Star-Gazing Hill.”

“That’s right. At night, you can see an amazing star-filled sky, and it’s popular with couples. It is said that if you are accepted by the gods, you may receive a blessing in the future.”

“That’s amazing…”

“Well, since no one has actually received a blessing since I became the Lord, don’t have excessive expectations, and if you have time, you should go. Well then. See you.”

“Thank you very much. I look forward to seeing you again.”

“Hmm, me too.”

After saying that, Moye told his attendant to call the next visitor.

He seems to be very busy.

Led by the guards, Wataru, and the others went back to the castle.

They were able to conclude the negotiations successfully.

Wataru got the permit and was also able to recover Aire’s weapon, which was his original goal.

There were some worries and strong pressure on the way, but it ended well.

He felt refreshed, and his heart was full of joy.

He had time to look at the stonework and the layout of the corridors in the castle and the garden that could be seen from inside, and he enjoyed the sights and the air as he made his way to the exit.

Mariel, who followed him, and Aire also seemed to be in a very good mood.

Then, as they walked down the slope after leaving the gate, Mariel and Aire suddenly hugged Wataru.

Mariel hugged him and looked down, embarrassed, while Aire had a big smile on her face.

He could feel the softness of her breasts on his shoulders.

He was thrilled by the sight of their beautiful faces filling his field of vision.

“Thank you, Master. I love you!”

“Whaaat, Aire?!”

“I love you too. I was so happy when you told Baron Moye that you wouldn’t let him have me. I was so touched by your determination.”

“Mariel, too?!”

Wataru was surprised by this sudden confession.

“Thank you for getting my sword back. The way you were able to negotiate with the lord as an equal was really, really cool! I couldn’t do that, so I fell in love with you.”

“I see. It’s nice to be able to express your feelings so directly, but it’s also a little embarrassing.”

“You’re just pretending! That’s not fair!”

“Ma-Mariel?”

“Master, you didn’t deny when Baron Moye said that you and I were in love. Can I believe that?”

“O-of course!”

Besides Aire, who blushed with excitement, and Wataru, who blushed with the sudden confession, even Mariel blushed with embarrassment.

“Fufufu. Mariel’s shyness is no good. First come, first served. Master, I’ll give you a kiss.”

“Hey, I won’t lose!”

Right after Aire placed her soft lips on Wataru’s cheek, Mariel also kissed him vigorously, even though she was blushing.

Wataru felt more joy than embarrassment as he felt the softness on both sides of his face and was overwhelmed by the sweet smell.

He had been afraid, too, but it had been worth it.

If he could win their affection, he would surely be able to face any danger without fear.
