Chapter 112 – Day 4 of the Strategy Life
After learning about P.J. and the others from 100 years ago, we decided to bury Paul’s bones in a bag. We carefully packed the soil so he wouldn’t come back to life.
“What are you doing with that leather bag?”
Chel asked, pointing to the egg-shaped leather bag.
“It’s dangerous if there’s a possibility that it’s a dungeon. Do you want to bury it with him? It looks like it was Paul’s.”
“Don’t you want to see what’s inside?”
“It looks like it’s sealed, so it’s okay. They say if you don’t touch it, it won’t hurt you.”
“It would be good if someone could check it out.”
“Right now, we can’t hear anything from the corpses in the demonic land. Paul has reached his limit, and we couldn’t even hear Ka-Zira or Park.”
“Have you tried?”
“We just couldn’t tell Makyo.”
Hel said without showing any sign of guilt.
“So it’s either Peter from the Sky Island or Farrell from the Cliff Garuda that Hel hasn’t met…”
“It’s okay if Makyo asks them directly.”
Are you saying that I should learn spiritualism as well?
“I’m not going to meet ghosts from a hundred years ago.”
“That’s not what I’m saying. There are people living in the giant magical beast.”
“Right now, I’m not going to waste three and a half years going to Midgard. I’ll follow the foolish king of the kingdom of Meiju.”
“Peter wrote that the ‘Keeper of Time’ might be outside the dungeon.”
“I’m also curious about the ‘Keeper of the Ruins’ that was in P.J.’s notebook.”
Jennifer and Sylvia leaned forward. It seemed that Sylvia had read P.J.’s notebook carefully.
When I checked, it said, ‘The Keeper of the Ruins seems to be fighting something’ two pages before the end. I remembered that the stone tablet by Peter’s side said, ‘Ask the Keeper of Time in the Magical Beast.’
“Surely it said Magical Beast, not Dungeon. How can you live on a giant magical beast?”
“Because it’s big.”
“But it’s been a thousand years.”
“Four thousand days in a thousand years. So it’s just over eleven years on the magic beast.”
Hel did the calculations.
“Even if it’s eleven years, what about food? There are people living in Midgard, not just on the magical beast, right?”
“Don’t they raise it in the dungeon?”
Jennifer said something random.
“Can’t they?”
“I don’t think they can’t, but…”
“What? Can dungeons be used as farmland?”
If that’s the case, it might be possible to use dungeon eggs to farm.
“Normally, wouldn’t that be impossible? Even the monsters you defeat in dungeons, only the parts you defeat would be left, right?”
“In the Meiju Kingdom, one of the successive demon kings must have created a testing ground for breeding experiments. Besides, since most of the plants in the demonic land are monsters, it seems like it could be done.”
“So you mean you can turn the plants into monsters, grow them, and then defeat and harvest them all at once…”
“As I thought, farming in the demonic land is a bit strange…”
Lipa retreated.
“But if there’s even a little hope, I’m starting to feel like I can’t give up on the dungeon egg…”
If P.J.’s legacy in the leather bag really is the Dungeon Egg, then it might be possible to farm in the demonic land. If we can become self-sufficient, then immigrants will surely come.
However, Chel, who was explaining about dungeon farming, looked somber.
“Is something wrong?”
“No, I’m just wondering about the Foolish King’s words. Does anyone have any idea what she meant by ‘wheat fields stretching to the sky’?”
“I don’t think there are any wheat fields.”
“The only thing in the sky is a small island with a ruined house on it.”
Jennifer, who was banished to the sky island, could have seen the sky of the demonic land. She might have seen something different from us, who were only there for a short time.
“Was there a cloud that didn’t move far away?”
“No, there wasn’t. The stars also moved every night.”
“Could it be that the wheat field fell and was buried in the sand somewhere in the past 1000 years?”
“Makyo, were there any traces of the wheat field around those chains?”
“There were ruins, but I don’t think there were any traces of farmland. I even searched underground, but all I found was a golem.”
“A-a-a vanished wheat field… Was it eaten?”
“Yes, I think the same as Sylvia.”
Chel and Sylvia nodded.
“Who would eat it? Unless there’s a monster as big as a mountain range that would eat a whole wheat field… There is one!”
If it’s possible to eat a wheat field, then it must be the giant magical beast.
“Even giant magical beasts need an energy source, and even if they were to farm in a dungeon, they’d need soil and water, but if they were to consume the entire farmland of Sky Island, it would make sense.”
“But even if they travel through time, it’s been 11 years. Surely their energy would have decreased, and the soil would have been depleted, right?”
If you keep growing the same kind of crops, the nutrients in the soil will become unbalanced, and the plants will become more susceptible to disease. Midgard is a highly civilized world, so I’m sure they use good-quality fertilizers and crop rotation.
“Dungeons are isolated spaces, right?”
“That’s right. Makyo is the son of a farmer, can’t you see that?”
“Yes, a little. If I lived in Midgard now, wouldn’t I be worried about food and energy shortages?”
Everyone nodded in response to my question.
“What will you do as the Lord of the demonic land?”
“As the lord, the appearance of the giant magic beast is extremely annoying. It destroys the area to no end. However, if there are still people living there, they are refugees, so to speak, right?”
“Refugees from the past, right?”
“Refugees with high technological skills, right?”
“As the Lord, will you help them?”
“If they need help, I’ll help them. If they don’t need help, I won’t touch them in the future.”
“Will you help them for nothing? We’re not saints, nor are we slaves of Midgard.”
“The reward is their technological prowess and historical knowledge. Let’s use them and make them pay.”
Lipa and I looked at each other and laughed.
“Anyway, if Makyo can’t get on the giant magical beast, there’s nothing we can do.”
“We also have to decide what supplies we’ll need.”
“We may not have much to bargain with. We also need to calculate exactly how many days we have left.”
“We should probably go to the training facility and order some vegetable seeds.”
The women suddenly began to move. Lipa and I did not know what to do and became nervous.
“Makyo, get ready and practice climbing the magical beast!”
“Lipa, if you have nothing to do, please go and cook something!”
“”Yes…””
The underground lake at the bottom of the well suddenly came to life.
I went outside with Chel and started training to climb the countless walls of earth floating in the air.
“The target is moving, so it’s normal for it to sway and hit you, unlike a chain!”
“Yes!”
To be honest, I couldn’t even hold on to the wall at first.
“Are you serious? Use your magic power!”
As Chel told me, I used my magic power, but the earth wall broke.
“What are you trying to do by breaking it?!”
“Chel’s earth wall is too weak!”
“Don’t be stupid! Are you trying to kill the giant magic beast? Change the nature of your magic power!”
“Oh, I see!”
I imagine that my magic power has adhesive properties, and I stick to the wall.
It hurts my face, but it’s interesting to have the feeling of sticking to the wall. However, if I only support my body with my hands, I can’t maintain my position, and I slide down. I want to climb before I fall, but it’s difficult to time the cutting of the magic power and keep my balance.
Maybe it’s because I’m using muscles I don’t normally use in this full-body exercise, but I get tired quickly. Also, I can’t react well to the shaking and jolting. If I had a knife, could I climb while sticking it into the wall?
“What is it, Makyo? Is that all you’ve got?”
The instructor is the demon Chel.
“Wait a minute. You’re sending me to face a giant magical beast alone?”
“Of course! No one else can do it.”
“No, you can do it, Chel. You can climb it. The more support we have, the better, and if we go in pairs, I can avoid being tricked.”
“Impossible! I can’t defeat a Guardian Spider alone. What if there are many of them on the giant magical beast?”
“We’ll think about it when the time comes. We can borrow Lipa’s flying broom and escape.”
Jennifer, who had just finished writing a list of supplies, came out of the well.
“I’m done!”
“That’s perfect. Jennifer, Chel can climb the giant magical beast, right?”
“Yes. Isn’t that what you’ve been training for?”
Jennifer had thought that Chel would go from the beginning.
You see?
“Jennifer, I can’t do it!”
“No, according to Hel-san, it’s still over a week until the giant magical beast arrives, so it’ll be fine. We’ve changed, so I’m sure you can too. This is a demonic land, after all.”
Jennifer had a devilish smile on her face.
“Even you, Jennifer, can climb it…”
“I might be able to climb it, but compared to you two, I definitely don’t have enough physical strength or magic power. It’s impossible.”
“It will be fine. After all, this is a demonic land.”
“It is a demonic land. I want to keep growing, so I don’t want to lose my direction. You can increase your magic power no matter where you go, so you’re lucky.”
“…Maybe so.”
With Jennifer’s words, Chel also decided to climb the giant magical beast.
“Ah, here’s the list of supplies. I think you should take more food and different kinds of seeds. I think you’ll also need various types of magic stones, but I think many of the weapons and armor over there are superior.”
I received the list and immediately returned to the underground lake to start preparing. Since there are many things that aren’t available in the demonic land, I decided to go to the training facility. It would have been faster if the Elven trade hut on the other side of the stream had been working, but I couldn’t expect that.
“Sylvia, can you make a lot of knife handles for me?”
If I shape them with magic power, I won’t need blades.
“D-do you want them made of bone or wood?”
“Either is fine, but I want them to be strong and durable.”
“Got it.”
Sylvia got to work right away. It would be helpful if she could make a few in case I made a mistake.
“Makyo, I think there are probably about 12 days left until the appearance of the giant magical beast. However, we also need to predict where it will appear and the route it will take.”
Hel drew a simple map of the demonic land and showed it to me. If it appears far away, it will take time just to chase the giant magical beast.
“I understand. We’ll follow the footprints of the giant magical beast. I’ll go with you as far as I can. Lipa and Jennifer, please help Hel.”
“Okay.”
After I ate the dinner Lipa had prepared, I set off westward with my backpack on my back.
Outside the well, Chel used earth magic to create countless ladders. It was a daring challenge, but sometimes you have to try before you know.
As I entered the forest from the rocky area, the first star was shining in the eastern sky.

They finally talked Makyo into it. All they had to do was talk about him being the landlord lol. I’m glad Chel got roped into it since she was pushing Makyo so hard to do it.

“Are you trying to kill the giant magic beast?”
Why shouldn’t he? It comes and goes, creating disasters with each step. What’s its value if kept alive? If you can kill it, you should. Better find a way of disposing it body safely first. Imagine a rotting carcass the size of a mountain.
