Chapter 31 – Looking For A New Home

They were followed during their date.

After receiving the report from Aire, Wataru decided to take the search for a new location more seriously than he had originally planned.

There is a big difference between thinking that someone might investigate you and actually being investigated.

Wataru had no choice but to take security seriously.

Wataru and the others arrived at a six-story apartment building near the gate in Osaka City.

It was the type of apartment building where only one resident lived on each floor.

The entrance was also equipped with an automatic lock.

It had features that made it extremely difficult for strangers to enter.

“This is the last property I have to show you today,”

The real estate agent said as he opened the front door.

This was the fourth property that Wataru and the others had seen that day.

At first, they had been excited, but after walking around and checking the properties over and over again, they began to look tired.

It was a mental fatigue different from physical fatigue, and even Aire, who was usually energetic, looked a little tired.

“The security is basically the same everywhere, but considering the foot traffic, this area is probably the best.”

“I’m concerned about the kitchen.”

“I like the balcony.”

“Please take your time to look around.”

Wataru and the others looked around the rooms as they pleased.

Each of them concentrated on aspects closely related to their work.

The whole floor was available, and there were four bedrooms.

Each person could have their own room, and one could be used as an office.

There were also plenty of closets, so there was plenty of storage space.

And since there was no furniture yet, it looked incredibly spacious.

“What do you think of the kitchen?”

“Thank you. The shape is a little different, but the height of the sink is just right for me, which is a relief. It’s also very spacious, which is nice.”

“Ah, well, the kitchen in the apartment we live in now is a bit cramped.”

Mariel’s comment made Wataru smile ironically.

Still, it’s a spacious kitchen for a one-person apartment.

There are two gas burners and room for a cutting board.

The house Wataru used to live in was so small that it was impossible to cook.

Mariel would be surprised to see it.

Leaving Mariel, who was still interested in the kitchen, Wataru decided to ask Aire for her opinion.

Aire stood on the balcony and looked around.

The view from the fifth floor wasn’t bad. She could see the heads of people walking back and forth on the street in front of her and the cars parked there.

But it wasn’t the highest floor.

There were several tall apartment buildings around it.

If this was a spy movie, someone might suddenly move into the building across the street. It was also possible that the police would ask the residents to keep an eye on them.

(Maybe I should get some thick curtains.)

Just imagining such things was a bit of fun.

The apartment building itself was surrounded by walls, making it difficult for non-residents to enter.

Aire seemed to be checking various things, such as the view, the layout of the apartments above and below, and the distance between neighboring apartments.

“Is there anything that caught your eye?”

“Yes. Even if no one can get in from the front, they might come in through the balcony, so I’m watching.”

“Aren’t you worrying too much?”

“No, I’m not. I could jump to that height in one jump.”

“That’s true for you, but not for everyone!”

“Master, you don’t know that. I know it!”

“W-what do you know?”

With a serious expression, Aire warns him, and even Wataru can’t hide his tension.

A thief is breaking into the fifth floor through the balcony.

(Normally, I wouldn’t ask, but is it really possible?)

“There are ninjas. They can run on walls.”

“No, actually, ninjas disappeared a long time ago.”

“What… There are no ninjas?”

“Ah, no. I don’t know. Actually, it’s possible that they still hide their identities and are still in hiding.”

Seeing Aire’s shocked face, Wataru found it difficult to say anything.

If you’re an elite climber, boulderer, or parkour athlete, it’s not impossible to climb a tiled wall by hooking your fingers.

You could say it’s a modern version of ninja techniques.

“Maybe, if they’re ninjas like you said, they could get in.”

“Right?!”

Should he clear up the misunderstanding or just leave it as is?

Looking at Aire’s brightened face, he felt that it was okay to leave it as it was.

“Still, if it’s too high, it might cause problems when more tenants move in.”

“That’s true. I’d have a hard time remembering so many people. Thinking about it, maybe we should just secure the balcony and keep it at this height.”

Aire’s opinion, which takes safety seriously, should be respected.

In this regard, Wataru trusted Aire completely.

He conferred with Mariel and Aire.

The empty apartment echoed loudly.

“But the monthly rent is 200,000 yen. With my previous income, that would have been my entire living expenses… No, that’s hard.”

“But with a business deal, you can live here for two years.”

“Yes. I’m grateful for that. It’s just that my sense of money hasn’t changed at all, which is a problem.”

It’s only been three months since his income skyrocketed.

Wataru isn’t used to spending large amounts of money.

He didn’t buy any luxuries or go on a shopping spree, just the necessities for Mariel and Aire.

If this were another world, he would have paid for Mariel and Aire with gold coins, so things would be different.

His standard of measurement is gold coins now, so he doesn’t think of large sums of money as such.

Still, there will be more things to buy as he settles into his new home.

There are a lot of things he’s held off buying because the house is small.

“Fufufu, then you’ll just have to get used to it.”

“I don’t really feel like splurging right now. I’d rather spend it on Mariel and Aire.”

“Come on, you’re so sly when you say things like that.”

“Eh, really?”

“Mariel, you’re so naive.”

Why did Aire get upset with Mariel, who was blushing?

Wataru didn’t understand.

After all, he had chosen this apartment as their new home.

It wasn’t just a new place to live, but he also planned to use it as an office.

Once they had a permanent base, there would be many more opportunities for the future.

It was a small thing, but it would become one of the catalysts for the future success of Wataru and the others.
