Chapter 40 – The Hot Spring Town of Jadeblue

The ship that had fended off the monster attack continued smoothly on its way and arrived in Jadeblue Town at the scheduled time.

Jadeblue Town was one of the kingdom’s most famous hot spring towns.

As its name suggests, the town was known for its medicinal hot springs, which were colored like medicine.

Tourists from all over the country visited for hot spring therapy and beauty treatments, so the town was always bustling with people.

Masques had told Wataru about this before they arrived.

The ship docked at the pier, and cargo was unloaded.

They would probably unload many items that could only be found in this town.

Wataru watched the scene for a moment, then slowly made his way up the gangplank.

This time, he held Aire’s hand from the start.

Masques smiled wryly at Wataru, but his embarrassment paled in comparison to the sense of safety he felt.

He felt relieved when he stepped onto the shore.

As he made sure his footing was secure, Masques came over. He must have been busy with work.

“We had to stop our game halfway through today. I would have lost if we had continued, so dinner is on me. I know a good place.”

“Really? Thank you!”

“Ara, thank you very much.”

“Hehe, yay!”

It was Wataru’s first time in the town, so he didn’t know where to eat.

He was grateful that Masques, a regular here, could introduce him to a good place.

The only thing he was concerned about was whether his taste in food would match that of the muscular, hard-drinking sailors.

“Do you like baths?”

“Yes, I’m a big fan of baths.”

“Masques-sama, my master is quite fond of baths. On a previous trip, he couldn’t stand just having a bucket of hot water, so he stayed at a hotel with a bathtub.”

“Huh, that’s hardcore. This town is famous for its hot springs. There are several large public baths. I’ll show you the nicest ones.”

It was a generous offer.

Wataru bowed slightly, but Masques laughed cheerfully.

“Thank you very much.”

“Let’s go to the hot springs first and then have dinner after we get out.”

“Sure, but I’d like to leave my luggage somewhere.”

“I understand. I can show you the inn where I usually stay. I want to leave my luggage there, too.”

“I’m sorry for all the trouble.”

Masques was very thoughtful.

He had probably hosted many guests before and knew what they wanted. Wataru was impressed by his consideration.

Following Masques’s directions, they walked away from the river and into town.

Everywhere they looked, they saw tourists relaxing.

Men and women of all ages walked around with flushed, moist skin, probably from having enjoyed the hot springs.

There were many food stalls and shops selling drinks, likely targeting customers looking for a beverage after their bath.

Although the prices were geared toward tourists, all the food looked delicious and unique.

There were chairs set up in front of the stalls where customers could sit and rest.

Another distinctive feature was the large number of souvenir shops.

They mainly sold simple dried foods, confections, and carved items that tourists could take home.

A phrase caught Wataru’s attention, so he asked Masques about it.

“What is the hot spring essence?”

“It’s a concentrated extract of the hot spring water here. It’s said to have skin-beautifying and rejuvenating effects.”

“Skin-beautifying and rejuvenating? Does it really work?”

“It seems so. I heard that the area closest to the source is reserved for the royal family and off-limits to the public.”

“I see…”

Wataru wondered how effective it really was.

Considering the effects of potions from the other world, perhaps natural hot springs are not the same as those on Earth.

They could possibly be even more effective.

However, the two beautiful women were more interested than Wataru.

“Master, I’ve heard about this, too. In ancient times, there were several hot springs in this area where the gods bathed and rested. Such places are said to be imbued with divine energy and have healing and beautifying effects.”

“So it’s the real thing?”

“There’s no proof that this town is the real one, but if the royal family has exclusive rights to it, then it’s possible. I’ll go buy some of that hot spring essence!”

“Ah, I’ll buy some, too.”

“Well, you can spend your allowance however you want, but if you’re going to buy some, why not buy it at the hot springs instead of at a souvenir shop?”

“Y-You’re right. That’s true.”

“Ugh, I-I’ll hold back.”

Weren’t they both still only nineteen?

To Wataru, they seemed younger and full of youth and energy.

Their skin was smooth and spotless. He wondered if they could really feel the effects of the hot springs.

Did they really need to rejuvenate themselves at such a young age?

Wataru had his doubts, but, seeing their reactions, he refrained from saying anything.

He didn’t want to offend them.

As long as they used the hot springs within their allowance, didn’t break the law, and didn’t cause any trouble for him and the others, he decided not to worry about it.

He wanted them to be free in other ways because they were restricted as slaves.

“Hey, I want to ask you two something. If this works, do you think we could sell it over there?”

“Master, definitely!”

“It’ll sell!”

As the two shouted in unison, Wataru felt overwhelmed, yet he also sensed a new business opportunity.
