Epilogue
Around the time that Yuzuki and the others began fighting the shadows…
Mai, who had left Yuzuki and Yuuya by themselves, had returned, thinking it was about time they had a proper conversation. But suddenly, she seemed to notice something was off and looked up.
“Huh? Is this… a barrier?”
What Mai had sensed was the barrier that Sougen had deployed.
“And it’s my father’s barrier! How…?”
Mai was bewildered by the sudden appearance of her father’s barrier.
Then, she noticed something else.
“Wait a minute. Yuzuki and that guy aren’t here either!”
Yes, she had returned to where the two had been, but astonishingly, neither of them were present.
Even worse, she could no longer sense their presence anywhere within the shrine grounds.
A terrible feeling took hold of Mai.
“I-I can’t believe it, but don’t tell me those two are somehow connected to this barrier?”
Though she said it aloud, she couldn’t shake the awful feeling that her worst fears were coming true.
“As much as I want to check what’s going on, since Father set up the barrier, he must not be here either. And I can’t just leave the shrine unattended, can I?”
After all, no one from the Kagurazaka family could leave the shrine unattended. In the end, Mai could only wait at the shrine for everyone to return, feeling restless and uneasy.

“Ugh… Yuzuki…”
“Ah, Father!”
Just as I breathed a sigh of relief after defeating the shadow, one of the fallen men called out.
Hearing that voice, Yuzuki hurried over to the man.
Wait, did I just hear “Father”? Does that mean that man is Yuzuki-kun’s father?
He seems pretty stern.
As I pondered over this, the girl let out a huge yawn.
“Fuaaaah… This is the first time I’ve used my power in this form. I’ll need a little rest.”
“Huh?”
The moment she said that, she turned into a ball of light and smoothly vanished into my body.
Simultaneously, the raging blizzard swirling around us disappeared in an instant.
“Whoa… That girl really is unbelievable…”
“──Yuuya-dono.”
“Huh?”
I was slightly taken aback by the girl’s extraordinary power when a voice called out to me.
I turned toward the voice and saw a man getting up with Yuzuki-kun’s help.
“Ah… Are you okay? Here, take this…”
I pulled the Complete Healing Herb Juice, which I always kept handy, out of my Item Box and handed it directly to the man.
“This is…”
“It’s a… healthy juice.”
It healed injuries instantly, so it was much more than just healthy, but whatever.
As I thought this, the man took a sip of the drink, and the next moment, every wound on his body had healed.
“Wh—what!?”
“What is this drink?”
Ignoring the stunned pair, I pulled out another juice and approached the other fallen man.
After I gave him the juice, his body recovered instantly, too.
At the same time, the man regained consciousness.
“Ugh… Ah, where… am I?”
“Are you okay?”
“Ah, yeah. I’m fine. Wait, what about that shadow? Where is it?”
The man scrambled to his feet and scanned the area, but the shadow was already gone. He was utterly dumbfounded.
“Impossible… Where did that shadow go?”
“──It’s all thanks to Yuuya-dono.”
“Yuuya-dono?”
Then, Yuzuki-kun’s father stood up and explained.
He approached me and bowed his head.
“You saved us. Thank you.”
“Ah, no, well, I’m glad I could help—”
The moment I started to say that, Yuzuki’s father grabbed my hand with all his strength.
“Huh?”
“Yuuya-dono! Please marry into our family. No, marry my daughter, Yuzuki!”
“Huh… Whaaaat!?”
“Wha-… Teruyoshi-dono!”
I let out a cry of surprise at the man’s sudden words.
Marriage? Why?
But more importantly…
“Eh, Yu-Yuzuki-kun is a girl?”
“…”
When I shouted that, Yuzuki shyly averted her gaze.
I froze, overwhelmed by this new information.
“──Yuuyaaaaaaaaaaa!”
For some reason, I heard a voice calling my name from above.
“Eh, Oki-san!?”
Still reeling from the shock about Yuzuki-kun—no, Yuzuki-san—I looked toward the voice and saw Oki-san diving straight toward us from a helicopter above.
“H-hold on… This is way too much, you know?”
Faced with this sudden, chaotic situation, I could only feel utterly bewildered.
***
──Around the time that Yuuya defeated Iris and the others’ shadows with the power of mutation, he contracted it.
In the back room of the Underworld Society, where a magic circle had been engraved on the floor, the cat-masked man knelt, pouring his power into it.
But…
“Wh-what!? The connection’s gone!”
“What’s wrong?”
The crow-masked man, who had been watching the cat-masked man, asked as he let out a cry of surprise.
The cat-masked man released his hands from the floor, and his expression turned grim.
“Just now, the connection to the shadow I summoned vanished.”
“Couldn’t that be because someone defeated the shadow?”
The cat-masked man shook his head at the crow-masked man’s question.
“No, that’s not it. That shadow was an existence that could never be destroyed, no matter how much it was shattered, as long as I kept channeling my power into this magic circle. After all, the core of that shadow was this magic circle itself. Whether you wanted to destroy the core or obliterate it with overwhelming power, the only way to completely destroy the shadow was to destroy this magic circle.”
“Then why…”
“…I don’t know. The connection to the shadows vanished suddenly. No matter how much power I channeled into it, there was no response.”
“I see…”
The man with the crow mask paused, as if in thought, then spoke again.
“Hmmm. Could the summoned shadow have made contact with someone from the Kagurazaka or Komyouin families?”
“Probably. Since it was destroyed several times and I had to keep injecting the power, it’s certain that combat occurred with someone.”
“From what you said, that shadow was equivalent to a level three or four in mutation. The fact that they could destroy such an enemy suggests that, even though they’ve fallen, they’re still a lineage standing at the apex of the shadow world.”
“That’s the likely explanation… I still can’t fathom why the connection to the shadow vanished so abruptly, but this gives us more to research. Next, we must continue our studies until we can create a more perfect shadow.”
With that, the cat-masked man exited the room engraved with magical circles.
