Chapter 33 – Mountain Management

“Maybe it’s time we bought a company car…”

Wataru muttered after finishing his drive.

He parked in front of the barn on the recently purchased mountain.

The six-seater wagon’s trunk and empty seats were packed solid with alchemy tools.

“We’ve been using the car a lot more lately, haven’t we?”

“Yeah, you’re right.”

Wataru nodded at Mariel’s words.

They were increasingly using the car to transport sugar and coffee beans.

This was proof that William was working hard to expand their sales channels, primarily among nobles and merchant guilds.

The stockpiles of sugar and coffee beans in the warehouse they rented in the other world had noticeably dwindled, and Mariel and Cloche had been working hard on the deliveries.

Consequently, the amount of money flowing into Wataru’s hands was skyrocketing. The figures written on the promissory notes were becoming so large that they almost seemed like a joke.

He had grown somewhat accustomed to driving the car and felt more settled behind the wheel.

At this rate, it might be better to buy a car dedicated to work.

William had been leaving Southern Ship Town to make appearances in various places, and Wataru had also become busier. Consequently, they hadn’t been meeting as frequently as before.

He intended to arrange a meeting with Stella’s staff to discuss assistance when the time came.

“Stella, I’m temporarily storing the alchemy equipment in the storage room. Please tell Aire and Cloche where everything is. Later, I’ll try substituting some of our products for the equipment, so let me know if anything is usable.”

“Y-yes. Understood.”

Since yesterday, Stella has seemed a little different.

The gloomy aura that was there before has vanished.

He feels like she’s been giving him a feverish gaze lately.

Could it be…?

Has she finally realized how great her master is?

Getting cocky is the first step to failure.

At the very least, Wataru knows that his talents aren’t special.

Only through a twist of fate did he pass through the gate and become who he is now.

If he hadn’t noticed the dirt on the Jizo statue or passed through the gate, wouldn’t his life have remained unchanged?

“Mariel and I will prepare the medicinal herb garden.”

“Understood.”

Wataru and the others gathered and cleared excess branches from the planned site of the medicinal herb garden. They drove stakes into the ground to mark the boundaries.

The overgrown land was starting to resemble farmland.

It was December, and the mountain air was bitterly cold. But with hand warmers, thermal underwear, and thin down jackets, they managed surprisingly well as long as they kept moving.

Mariel was usually quiet, composed, and refined, but she wasn’t unaccustomed to physical labor.

When ordered to do fieldwork, she worked efficiently and effectively without complaint.

Her long, silver hair, like snow, fluttered in the strong wind, reflecting the light beautifully.

Perhaps warmed by her exertion, Mariel opened the front of her down jacket.

Suddenly, her large breasts spilled out with a soft plop.

“These hand warmers are quite good, aren’t they? The clothes are light, thin, and warm, too.”

Even if they aren’t enchanted items, we could probably manage with these.

They’d likely sell well enough to the townspeople.”

“Considering the markup, the profit margin seems slim.”

“Fufufu, true. But considering the shipping costs, it might cut into the time we have for sugar or coffee beans, which would lower our sales.”

“Wouldn’t that backfire?”

Wataru wore a thoroughly fed-up expression.

At this point, shipping was the biggest bottleneck.

They couldn’t handle bulky goods or unprofitable deals.

That’s precisely why herbs and coffee plants should be cultivated locally.

Herbs seemed promising, but coffee plants would require future negotiations.

“Do you think you can get along with Stella?”

“Yes, but she had a slightly gloomy side that concerned me. After hearing Master’s words, though, she seems to have let it go and brightened up.”

“She’s new, so be kind to her.”

“Of course. But Master, please don’t neglect the slaves who’ve served you from the beginning, okay?”

Mariel said this, looking up with a smile playing at the corners of her mouth. Contrary to her words, she didn’t seem worried at all.

In fact, her tone sounded amused as she anticipated Wataru’s reaction.

“Hmph. Like I’d ever do that.”

“Ah!”

Wataru embraced Mariel.

Her skin felt slightly warm, and a sweet scent wafted from her.

When he kissed her ear, her earlobe flushed bright red, and she immediately let out a sweet moan.

“Oh, everyone’s going to come.”

“It’s still fine, right?”

Stella and the others should still be busy packing up the last things.

Apparently, that thought was naive because Aire’s loud voice echoed through the mountains from afar.

“Ah—the Master is trying to do naughty things with Mariel!”

“That’s cheating!”

He quickly pulled away and straightened his clothes.

“Hahaha, they’re here. I wonder if they can sense it by smell or something?”

“Oh, they always notice right away. What a shame.”

“Well, we’ll just have to try again another time.”

Wataru waited for Aire and Cloche, trying to stay calm. The two of them immediately started chattering away.

“Master, Stella’s ready!”

“That’s so unfair!”

“All right, then. Let’s see just how well Stella can make potions.”

“I worked hard, too, you know!”

“Sorry, sorry. When we get back, okay?”

“Hey, don’t ignore me! Have mercy on me, too! Ohhhhh…”

Even though all the tools and materials were from another world, this experiment was crucial to determining whether potions could be made on Earth.

Apologizing, Wataru ran excitedly toward the barn.

Inside, the barn had been neatly cleared out, creating a spacious area.

The shelves were packed full of neatly arranged alchemical tools.

Seeing Wataru, Stella narrowed her eyes dreamily and her cheeks flushed.

Then, she bowed respectfully.

“Master, it’s still only the bare minimum, but preparations are complete.”

“I see. Then, begin the concoction.”

“Yes, leave it to me.”

Finally, the first true step toward producing potions on Earth was about to begin.
