Chapter 8 – Nobleman Again
The next morning, many of the knights overslept. Because I woke up at the usual time, and noticed those who were still sleeping, I woke up one of the knights.
“Ugh, jeez, I didn’t think I’d oversleep! S-Sorry, would you help me wake up the other knights?”
Since he asked me to, I woke them up one by one. Everyone seemed surprised and started changing their clothes in a hurry. When I came down to the cafeteria, the knights followed close behind me.
“That bed was really comfortable.”
“You got that right… I never thought an inn like this would have something so fantastic.”
“On top of that, aren’t the cafeteria chairs really comfortable, too?”
“Yeah, you’re right! I was really tired after the long journey, so I thought it was just my imagination, but they really are!”
The knights were having a lively conversation about the furniture. It seems my creations had been accepted as high quality by the noble and his knights. That was my biggest concern before.
A little later than the knights, Cray came downstairs with a sigh.
“Jeez, it looks like the knights overslept and caused you a bit of trouble.”
“No, not at all. In fact we actually have a service for adventurers who want to wake up in the morning.”
“Isn’t that supposed to be that girl’s job?”
“I guess, but this is fine.”
He glanced at Mear. As I was lining up for the meal, Cray-san patted the seat next to him, inviting me (or ordering me) to eat with him.
So I decided to sit there.
“Anyway, that bed… that was amazing. I’m still a little annoyed, thinking about how to sleep on long journeys, but I never thought I’d sleep so well like that. Do you know anything about who made that bed? I really want one for myself if I can get it!”
“Um… I don’t know who made it, but the owner might, if you ask him.”
“Oh, I see!”
Cray-san was so happy he was squinting. I had no intention of saying I made it myself. Since I’m not affiliated with the craftsman guild, I’m prohibited from making and selling something like that.
“I never thought I’d encounter something like this during my trip. If I get a bed like that, I can sleep well every day!”
“Sleep is pretty important, after all.”
He laughed, “Yeah!”
Then, after eating breakfast, Cray-san left the inn. As for the furniture, a servant from his mansion would come by and collect it later.
Another perk of Blacksmith, huh? I never thought I could make someone smile with this occupation. In the past, I was also happy to see my parents loved by villagers and city folk for all the monsters they killed. That’s something I’m still very proud of.
Was there someone’s smile I particularly wanted to see? This occupation might make even more people smile. It would be very difficult to do as an adventurer, but there would definitely still be other ways for me to pull it off.
◆ ◆ ◆
My days working at the inn continued while leveling up Blacksmith. On one particular day, a man came to the inn. I happened to be working as a receptionist at the time, so I thought he was just a normal customer and responded to him in kind, but I found out I was mistaken.
“Do you know who makes the furniture here?” The man asked while pointing at a chair. I was told not to talk about my power, so I didn’t immediately say I was the one who made it.
“Is there a problem, sir?”
I thought there shouldn’t be any problems. The recent customers had all been praising our furniture. Many of them were talking about the comfortable beds.
“No. There were rumors, but I had never heard of such a comfortable bed in my lifetime. In that case, I should ask the merchant guild about it, and see what they have to say.”
“Is that so? Well actually, a lot of it was old furniture, but I personally made some improvements to them, so most of them are different from the originals.”
“Y-you did?”
The man stared at me quietly with an observant eye.
“I did.”
“Do you mean to say that you’re already showing some talent in furniture craftsmanship, at your age? I’m sorry, in that case I’d like to ask you to make some furniture, is that okay?”
“Uh, I’m… not affiliated with the craftsman guild. I’m just doing as a personal hobby, so if there’s any exchange of money, that’s a bit…”
I sold a bed to Cray-san before, and that was an exception. If there was an exchange of money, I had to be affiliated with the craftsman guild and follow proper procedure. Technically, it’s a bit difficult to become associated with such a guild in the first place. Normally, you’d need to become a disciple or graduate from a craftsmanship school. There were various points that a craftsman needed to be informed on, particularly regarding whether to exchange their items directly with shops or sell them through merchants.
“Is that so? Then, can I ask you to work in secret? I won’t tell anyone about this.”
“Uh, well, if you put it that way…”
“That’s okay, then? Good. When can you do it?”
“Uh, h-hold on a minute.”
I can’t just decide something like this without consulting with Uncle first. I left someone else to handle the reception and went to find him. I talked about the previous conversation with him, and he thought for a bit before nodding.
I went back to the man. “It’s fine, sir. Let’s talk about it in my room.”
“Alright.”
Since Uncle gave permission, I guided the man to my room. Inside, I pulled up a chair and we sat face to face.
“I’m sorry to bother you during your work.”
“Don’t worry, it’s fine.”
“I see, that’s good… now, where should we start ― oh, first of all, a self-introduction is in order. I’m from the Arsus family, a noble house with the rank of Count.”
“…A nobleman again?”
“Ah. I heard about this inn from Viscount Cray.”
Another nobleman! I was a little surprised at this, but in retrospect, he did have a somewhat elegant style.

Could be interesting, I just hope he isn’t making excaliburs and then tanks by the end of this series. Thanks for the chapter.

So this is how it starts. Get’s recommended by the Viscount’s son and then everyone gets to know of him! And so his second customer has arrived!

Getting enticed into making the first illegal item is also one way to become blackmailed into doing more and more and more and more.
