Chapter 111

I lead them into the carriage. Some of them had never ridden in a carriage before, and I could see both the nervousness and excitement on their faces.

When the village representative, or rather, a man who was the leader of this group, stepped onto the carriage, he bowed to me again.

“T-thank you so much for your help… If it weren’t for you, we wouldn’t be here now…”

“…Well, are there any other villages around? I would like to ask for information about Lynn’s whereabouts.”

It was possible that Lynn had finished fighting the monsters and was resting in a nearby village. However, his expression soured after hearing my words.

“I-if I’m not mistaken, there’s a village northwest of here. …But――.”

His words were not clear. And his expression was not that good either.

…I wonder what he meant?

“Is there something wrong?”

“…The chief there is… a terrible man.”

“Terrible, huh? How so?”

“That man is… quite powerful and has a powerful divine treasure capable of defeating a bluestone monster. …But what he did with his power was to… select people.”

“Select people?”

“Y-yes… That man gathered women around him, or… only men who were obedient to him were allowed into the village. …He had also forcibly taken away pretty women who visited their village. In fact, a friend of mine was a victim of such an act…”

“…I see.”

In this continent, power is justice.

“If you want protection from the threat of the bluestone monster, you have to follow me.” There are a few people like that, I suppose.

“So… a beautiful girl like Camilla-san will certainly be a target.”

“…Is that so?”

If that’s the case, it’s probably best not to go with Camilla-san. If I had to go, I’d go alone.

It was possible that Lynn offered protection to the village without realizing that it was such a village…

It’s also possible that she was injured in the battle with the bluestone monsters.

“Thank you.”

“No… I’m sorry, I couldn’t help you.”

“It’s okay. Please give my regards to Bard-san when you arrive at the village.”

“Yes, I understand… Thank you for everything.”

He bowed his head and got into the carriage. I watched him leave and then looked at Camilla-san.

“Camilla-san… um, I think I’ll head to that village mentioned earlier.”

“Okay, should I go with you?”

“N-no… Well, I think it would be better if we went separately, just in case――.”

When I said that, Camilla-san put one hand on her waist.

“Do you think I will be targeted?”

“Eh? Y-yes. You heard what the man said earlier, right?”

“Why do you think I will be targeted?”

“…N-no, I mean… you’re beautiful…”

“I see. Beautiful, huh, fufu.”

Camilla-san smiled happily and then shook her head.

“I will be fine. If something happens, I’ll just fly away. I’ve got a lot of other tricks up my sleeve, too.”

“I understand. If you feel any danger, please escape immediately.”

“Yes, of course.”

“Let’s travel on foot until we enter the village. We don’t need to reveal too much about ourselves, do we?”

“I understand. That carriage was pretty comfortable. When we find Lynn, I want to take it and head straight back to the village.”

“All right, then.”

I walked alongside Camilla-san to the northwest village. I don’t know how long it would take, but I hoped to get there before dark.

It was a little past noon when the village came into view. I checked the time on a clock I had created with my blacksmith skills and then looked at the village from a distance.

The village was rather shabby, but it seemed to be reasonably well organized. At least, the houses were in better shape than those in Camilla-san’s tattered village when I first visited.

“What should we do, Relius? Should we attack first? Or do you want me to fly in from the sky?”

“…No, we won’t do anything like that. It’s just that I’m a little curious about something mentioned before.”

“Eh? What was it?”

“…Only men who do as he says and women of his choice can stay in that village, right?”

“Yes, it seems so. …Are you trying to make a connection to it, Relius?”

“No! …I was wondering about the men who followed him. The men guarding that entrance are… the men who followed him, right?”

“…Maybe. It is shameful to follow evil.”

“If the reason for that is because they can’t fight the bluestone monsters, then… I think things are going to change.”

“…What do you mean?”

“I’m going to set up a scenario for a moment.”

I confirmed that the golems that were dispatched in this direction were headed to us. The golems were kiting a wolf-type bluestone monster. After confirming that the bluestone monster was still rampaging, I gave a small nod.

There were three of them.

“Golem, can you bring these bluestone monsters to the men over there?”

The golems listened to my request and headed in that direction. Looking ahead with visual enhancement, I saw that the gatekeepers were in a hurry to get their weapons up, and some had entered the village.

“Re-Relius, don’t tell me you’re trying to use the bluestone monster to annihilate them?”

“No, I’m going to help them now!”

Camilla-san tilted her head and gave a small nod.
